Harvested Oct. 12, the Rossville, IL, site
yielded an average of 214 bu./acre for the early season test and 215.3
bu./acre for the full-season test. The site had good kernel sets and
kernel quality. A site was also planted at the Rossville, IL, location
to test hybrids not genetically resistant to rootworm beetles. Average
yields there were 198.5 bu./acre.

Corn hybrids were all extremely dry at the
Mazon, IL, field at harvest on Oct. 11. Most hybrids did not have any
leaves left on the stalks, and there was a large amount of stalk rot
present. Average yield was 176.1 bu./acre on the early season test and
183.6 bu./acre on the full-season test.

The Payne, OH, field had good emergence which resulted in
a good final stand at harvest on Oct. 10. Average yield was 224.2
bu./acre on the all-season test.

Dry weather after planting delayed germination and emergence of some
hybrids by three weeks at Marion, IN. At harvest, stalk quality was poor
due to stalk rot. Average yields were 172.3 bu./acre on the early season
test and 182.1 bu./acre on the full-season test.

A wet spring and timely rains in June and July helped make the yields at
New Paris, IN. The average yield was 191.3 bu./acre on the early season

The Woodburn, IN, location had a wet spring, and good growing conditions
through harvest. The average yield was 190.7 bu./acre on the early

Despite dry conditions at planting on May 1, the Floyd, IA,
field grew well most of the growing season. The location experienced
some heat stress before and during pollination, but the crop wasn't
affected. The average yields were 172.6 bu./acre and 180.9 bu./acre for
the early and full-season tests, respectively. This location also had an
ultra-early test which had an average yield of 176.3 bu./acre.

Regular rainfall helped produce very good yields at the Greene, IA,
plot. A wind storm after pollination caused some root lodging, but
yields were still very good. The early season test averaged 175.2
bu./acre.
The full-season test had an average yield of 195.4 bu./acre.

The Lawler, IA, field experienced a dry spring and wetter conditions
later in the summer. A June 21 hail storm caused some damage, but yields
were still considered very good. Average yields were 173.7 bu./acre and
188.6 bu./acre for the early and full-season tests, respectively. This
location also had an ultra-early test which had an average yield of
174.6 bu./acre.

There was good spring moisture at the LeMars, IA, location, but then the
field had hot and dry conditions through July. An August hail storm also
caused damage. Despite that stress, the plot grew well and yields were
better than expected. Average yields were 158.5 bu./acre and 176.9
bu./acre for the early and full-season tests, respectively.

The Newell, IA, location had a wet spring followed by a period of heat
stress in June and July. A major windstorm on July 3 caused some green
snap and/or goosenecking on certain hybrids. The green snap did affect
yields, but overall the yields were better than expected. Average yields
were 198.4 bu./acre and 200.6 bu./acre for the early and full-season
tests, respectively. This location also had an ultra-early test which
had an average yield of 183.3 bu./acre.

South Dakota Southeast Mark Querna
The Humboldt, SD, site had ample rain at planting and into
June. July was warm and dry, but August had 7 in. of rain to help kernel
fill. The average yield was 176.4 bu./acre on the early season site and
169.5 bu./acre on the full-season site. These are above the five-year
average of 130 bu./acre on this farm site.

The data collected from the Ethan, SD, site was deemed unreliable due to
difficult planting conditions and uneven emergence from a wet, early
growing season. There was a great deal of yield variance at harvest, and
therefore the results from this test are not being reported for 2007.

Tuscola, IL, had good growing conditions and
produced a respectable average yield of 56.2 bu./acre.

Planted May 17, the Findlay, IL, plot had an average yield of 42.9
bu./acre. This was slightly below the 50-bu./acre average yield that was
anticipated. Drought in August and September stressed the plants, and as
a result the harvested seed had a greenish hue.

The Jewett, IL, plot had an average yield of 39.1 bu./acre. August heat
produced medium plant heights, but caused harvested seed size to be very
small.

The Rossville, IL, field had good yields and excellent large-seed
quality. At harvest several varieties had green stems. Average yield was
53.2 bu./acre.

Rain in late July and August helped the stand at La Crosse,
IN. Average yield was 64.5 bu./acre.

The Greensburg, IN, location only received 6 in. of rain all growing
season. The plants were short, and nodes were stacked close due to the
dry weather. Average yield was 37.1 bu./acre.

Late rains in the growing season helped produce a nice crop
at the Oskaloosa, IA, field. The average yield was 65.7 bu./acre. There
was no evidence of any disease pressure at harvest on Oct. 12.

The Lewis, IA, field was wet early in the growing season, which helped
get the crop off to a good start. Average yield was 61.4 bu./acre. All
varieties were relatively short and standing well.

Field conditions produced an excellent yield of 77.7 bu./acre at the
Winterset, IA, field. Soybeans showed no sign of disease, and all
varieties were standing well at harvest on Oct. 12.

Timely rainfall all summer helped the Keystone, IA, field produce an
average yield of 62.6 bu./acre. All plants contained 5-7 pods/cluster.
Most varieties had short internodes.

Lack of rainfall during some key times in the growing season hurt the
yields at the Anamosa, IA, field. The site had an average yield of 51.4
bu./acre. White mold was found on several hybrids in the field. Some
lodging also occurred.

The Slater, IA, field received large amounts of rainfall early in the
growing season. As a result, there were some inconsistencies in the plot
due to some water ponding for a short period of time. But, overall, the
plants were standing excellent at harvest and there was no evidence of
disease pressure. Average yield was 57.2 bu./acre.

The Yale, IA, field produced an average yield of 56.3 bu./acre. The site
had heavy rainfall early in the growing season, but drought conditions
later in the summer. Plant heights ranged from 8 to 50 in.

The Easton, MN, field had adequate rains early during the
growing season, then experienced timely rainfall the remainder of the
summer. A 6-in. rain in mid-August helped produce the average yield of
59.9 bu./acre.

The Madison Lake, MN, field had excellent growing conditions in May and
early June. July was fairly dry, but rain in August helped boost average
yields to 61.9 bu./acre.

Spring showers delayed planting until May 22 at the Ethan,
SD, plot. The moist conditions caused uneven emergence and some low
stand counts. The site averaged 39.9 bu./acre.

Spring rains delayed planting until May 25 at Mission Hill, SD. June and
July were hot and dry, but August rains helped fill out the soybean
pods. The site averaged 53 bu./acre.

Planting conditions were ideal at Beresford, SD, and early season growth
was good. But, no rain fell at this site from June 2 to Aug. 2. Plants
shut down before August rain could rekindle growth. The
site averaged 46.7 bu./acre.

Combines have swept their way across Iowa, and
Poncho® 250 and Poncho® 1250 seed-applied
insecticides have made their marks as an integral parts of a
high-yielding management program.
In northwest Iowa, F.I.R.S.T. harvest results show
Poncho® 250 or Poncho® 1250 was used on 80
percent of the top 30 yielding hybrids. The top 10 yield varied from
211.5 to 222.1 bushels per acre.
