their potential impact on both consumers and business multimedia users,
were among the ongoing themes of the recent Consumer Electronics
Show in Las Vegas.
One keynote speaker, Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Computers, drew a
clear connection between the availability of fiber and the realization
of a multitude of appealing possibilities.
"In fact, broadband is
certainly on the rise," he said, "but it's mostly DSL or cable. And to
have a great experience, you really require something much faster,
