    Bain Capital Acquires Guitar Center for $2.1 Billion
    Bain Capital Partners LLC has acquired Guitar Center Inc. for $2.1 billion.

    Under the terms of the agreement, stockholders of the direct marketer and retailer will receive $63.00 in cash in exchange for each share of Guitar Center common stock they own.

    The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

    Netflix Settles Patent Dispute With Blockbuster
    Netflix Inc., the mail order video and DVD rental firm, has settled its patent infringement lawsuit with video rental chain Blockbuster Inc., according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Wednesday.

    The settlement will "have no material effect on Blockbuster's future financial performance,"´according to the filing. No further details were released.

    Last year, Netflix sued Blockbuster for patent infringement, alleging that Blockbuster's Web site Blockbuster.com illegally copied Netflix's method of allowing customers to order videos over the Internet (Direct Newsline, April 5, 2006).

    Website Pros Buys Web.com for $129 Million
    Website Pros, Inc. has acquired Web.com Inc. for $129 million in cash and stock.

    The transaction will close during the second half.

    According to the companies, the transaction will create a company with more than $117 million in revenue with more than 234,000 paid subscribers.

    Something4 Acquires Netcallidus Ltd.
    Something4 has acquired Netcallidus Ltd., an online marketing services company.

    Terms were not disclosed.

    SEMDirector, comScore Pair up for Search Share Analysis
    Web traffic measurement firm comScore is partnering with search reporting automation firm SEMDirector in a joint marketing initiative, the two companies announced.

    Under the agreement, San Diego-based SEMDirector will use comScore's qSearch data stream to deliver competitive analysis to search marketing clients. Specifically, the comScore data will let SEMDirector advertiser clients measure the share of clicks going to their Web sites compared to specified competitor sites.

    SEMDirector and Reston VA-based comScore will each sell the joint analytics solution to the other's customer base.

    SEMDirector offers automated software that lets clients manage search marketing, search optimization and pay-per-click advertising across multiple campaigns and channels. The comScore qSearch service gathers data by monitoring the Web activity of 1.5 million English speakers globally, including 1 million in the U.S. Particpants are watched via proxy metering, and the search-specific activity is then extracted from their behavior.

    "Our clients continue to increase their requests for these types of automated combined analyses leveraging third-party data sources," said Russ Mann, CEO of SEMDirector in a release.

    Ipsh, Omnicom Wireless Agency, Names Morrison President
    Ipsh, Omnicom Group Inc.'s wireless marketing unit, has named Bryon Morrison president.

    He moves over from Javelin Direct, Omnicom's direct and interactive marketing agency, where he served as vice president of sales and marketing since 2004. He replaces Nihal Mehta, an agency co-founder, who leaves Ipsh at the end of this month.

    Required skills and experience:
    • 2+ years of catalog or direct mail campaign experience in consumer products with an emphasis on circulation and analysis.
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
    • Very strong quantitative skills.
    • BA/BS in Marketing, Business Management, Information Management or related field is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge with prospecting and housefiles as well as vendor management.
    • Power-user level Excel skills and analytical skills.
    • Excellent written and communication skills.
    • You must thrive in a fast paced work environment, be highly organized and be able to prioritize among multiple responsibilities.
