2. CSB Sheds Light on Fatal Kleen Energy Explosion, Highlights Gas Blow Hazards

In a Feb. 25 statement, U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) Lead Investigator Don Holmstrom said the fatal Feb. 7 explosion at the Kleen Energy Plant in Middletown, Conn., occurred during a planned gas blow. He expressed broader safety concerns over natural gas power plants venting gas near worksites, a practice he called “inherently unsafe.”

We are proud to announce the launch of Future Leaders in EHS – a scholarship program co-sponsored by EHS Today and PureSafety. The Future Leaders program was created to support and encourage EHS students as they respond to the challenges of the 21st century workplace and lead the way in keeping tomorrow’s workers safe, healthy and on the job. Future Leaders is kicking off with a call for applications for a $5,000 scholarship to be awarded in December 2010.
