1. Only OSHA Has Not Adopted Chemical Safety Board Recommendations Stemming from Imperial Sugar Explosion

On the fourth anniversary of the deadly Imperial Sugar explosion, Chemical Safety Board (CSB) Chairman Rafael Moure-Eraso revealed that all but one of the agency’s recommendations successfully have been adopted by their recipients. Only OSHA has neglected to heed CSB’s call to "proceed expeditiously" on the recommendation that OSHA promulgate a new combustible dust standard for general industry.

Download standards for safety signs and symbols used to alert workers of hazards ranging in severity. In the US, both ANSI and OSHA have a classification scheme for these types of signs. Color codes are used to indicate the type of sign or severity of the hazard as are specific words. ANSI uses "danger", "warning" "caution", "notice". The standards define the size of the signs and letters, the placement and other key factors to help workers be aware of the hazards present. 3. CSB Provides Update on Safety Progress 5 Years After Little General Propane Explosion

Five years ago on Jan. 30, a propone explosion at the Little General convenience store in Ghent, W.Va., killed four people and injured six others. To mark the anniversary of this tragic event, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) provided an update on the board's recommendations, which were issued to improve propane technician training and emergency response efforts.
