OSHA’s Site-Specific Targeting 2009 (SST-09) program, which will focus enforcement efforts on nearly 4,000 high-hazard worksites on the agency’s list for comprehensive safety inspections, now divides the primary list into three sectors: manufacturing, non-manufacturing and nursing homes.

4. Michigan Business Community: Ergonomics Standard Will Lead to Job Losses

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce recently praised the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) for its "Take a Stand Day" to provide one-on-one consultations with employers to identify ways to effectively address health and safety issues in the workplace, without fear of citations or fines. At the same time, the group took the opportunity to call a proposed ergonomics standard “harmful” to business.

5. OSHA Updates PPE Standards to Reference Consensus Standards

On Sept. 9, OSHA issued a final rule revising the PPE sections of its general industry, shipyard employment, longshoring and marine terminals standards to reflect recent editions of the applicable national consensus standards that incorporate advances in technology.
