Acquisition of T&B Opens Up Markets for Both Companies
The electrical market is still buzzing from ABB’s
announcement last week that it would acquire Thomas & Betts Corp.,
Memphis, Tenn., for $3.9 billion. The move will expand its reach deep
into the North American electrical market and help T&B market its
products more broadly overseas.

Rexel International, Paris, made three headline
acquisitions over the past two weeks in markets it has targeted for
expansion. Rexel acquired Liteco in Canada’s maritime provinces and

Siemens has an agreement with RuggedCom Inc., Concord,
Ontario, to acquire all of the common shares of RuggedCom by way of a
friendly, board-supported takeover bid. The Canadian company is a
provider of communications and networking solutions for harsh industrial
environments.

Products
Schneider Electric’s recent decision to sell a basket
of motion, drives, control and signaling products through 10 U.S.-based
independent manufacturers representatives signals a departure from its
typical sales strategy because the company most often uses factory
salespeople to market its broad basket of electrical, control and
automation products.

19% to $11.2 billion.
