ESCO Pitching $100 Million in LED Lighting Retrofits to Hospitals
A posting at www.greenandsave.com says one of its divisions, LED Savings Solutions, is offering $100 million in LED lighting retrofits at zero out-of-pocket expense to over 100 hospitals and major hospital groups across the United States. Through partnerships with more than seven major manufacturers, LED Saving Solutions can offer the $100 million LED lighting incentive to help make health care more affordable. This offer extends to the first 100 hospitals that request up to $1 million in state-of-the-art lighting at zero out-of-pocket expense. The offer includes a free lighting energy audit and free retrofit bulb installation. LED Saving Solutions has forged production and financial partnerships that allow it to take on the initial cost of replacing the bulbs and will only get paid based on a portion of the savings generated each month, making the retrofit cash-flow positive for hospitals from the start.

Latest $$$ Incentives from DSIRE
The Database for State Incentives for Renewables & Energy (DSIRE) is loaded with new financial incentives for energy-efficient lighting and renewable energy sources. Check out your state's listing to see what's availabel.

Cree LRP-38: The LED replacement for halogen PAR 38s
Available in volume, the energy-efficient Cree LRP-38 has a power input of only 12 Watts. The Cree LRP-38’s low heat, low UV, and exceptional color quality—a CRI of 92 @ 2700K—is designed to replace 50W–90W halogen PAR 38s in retail and display settings and last 50,000 hours in open track fixtures. www.creeLEDlighting.com

Utilities to Study Power Transmission Challenges in Midwest Wind Belt
One of the wind industry’s biggest challenges is getting power from where it’s produced to where it’s needed. Several of the nation’s largest utilities are banding together to develop a solution to this issue. According to a recent article on DesMoinesRegister.com, MidAmerican Energy, Des Moines, Iowa, American Electric Power, Columbus, Ohio, American Transmission Co. and Excelon Corp. have commissioned a study of a major transmission line to move wind energy from Iowa and the Midwest to larger cities. The Des Moines Register article said the group has hired Quanta Technology LLC, Raleigh, N.C., a utility infrastructure consulting company, to study transmission development for the Dakotas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

According to information on its website, MidAmerican Energy Company is No. 1 in the nation in ownership of wind-powered electric generation among rate-regulated utilities and has more than 1,393 megawatts of wind generating facilities in operation, under construction and under contract in Iowa. A 2009 report from the American Wind Energy Association says MidAmerican also is No. 1 in the nation for installation of wind generation.

Glut of PV Panels Choke Growth
A posting at www.digitimes.com says 2009 demand in the solar industry has been crippled because of a change in tariff policies in Spain, which accounted for half of all installations in 2008. In the posting at www.digitimes.com. Henning Wicht, senior director and principal analyst for photovoltaics at iSuppli, said this demand drop led to a massive buildup of inventory throughout the supply chain, from the raw material polysilicon, to photovoltaic (PV) cells, to complete PV systems.

Coated Lamps
The protective coating on CoverShield safety-coated lamps meets industry regulations for glass and chemical containment. If a lamp ruptures whether by impact, dropping, unusual stress or thermal shock, CoverShield’s protective coating will contain glass shards and other material within the envelope. This containment helps offset the risk of contamination or injury while eliminating the expense of cleanup. The CoverShield product line includes CFLs, linear fluorescent, HID, general-service incandescent and heat lamps. Linear lamps are approved by NSF, CFIA, USDA, FDA and OSHA. Custom coating is available for any HLT product. Halco Lighting Technologies

Helix Wind Buys Two Smaller Wind Turbine Manufacturers
A report on the San Diego News Network says San Diego-based Helix Wind is expanding into the market for smaller wind turbines in low wind environments with the purchase of Portland, Ore.-based Abundant Renewable Energy LLC and Renewable Engineering LLC, which have the same owners. The wind energy systems produced by these firms boast direct grid-connect without batteries, battery charging systems, powerful blades, efficient alternators and sophisticated controls making for quiet, consistent and reliable wind generators. In addition, both turbines are qualified for rebate programs in California and New York, as well as in many other states.

LED Post Light
McGraw-Edison's Generation LED Post Top Luminaire uses a modular LED light engine designed to deliver illumination comparable to a 100W HID system while offering more than 50 percent in energy savings. The light engine can also be purchased separately for retrofit applications of pre-existing Generation Series HID fixtures. Ideal for residential communities, office complexes, downtown streetscapes, roadways, outdoor retail applications, city parks and school campuses, the post top luminaire also features modular fixture design flexibility and maintenance ease. It produces 5,000 lumens and provides excellent color rendering, a brilliant white color temperature and low glare. Cooper Lighting

Photoluminescent Exit Signs
Eco Photo luminescent Exit Signs from Martinson-Nicholls absorb and store ambient light and are viewable from up to 100 feet without using electricity. In the event of an emergency with a blackout or smoke, this stored energy is immediately visible, creating a clearly recognizable, photo luminescent egress indicator. These signs qualify for the federal government's Commercial Building Tax Deduction (CBTD), giving owners the tax benefit of as much as 60 cents per square foot for qualifying lighting systems. By switching to photoluminescent signs, a building with 100 traditional exit signs will save more than $3,500 per year in energy costs. Wal-Mart is already using the Eco Exit Signs.
