Code News Update
Comments Sought on Proposed
TIA
As published in the May issue of NFPA News, the
following Tentative Interim Amendment (TIA) has been proposed to the
NFPA.
NFPA 30A-2008, Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and
Repair Garages
TIA Log No. 956
Reference: Table 8.3.1
Submitter: Marshall A. Klein, Marshall A. Klein & Associates, Inc.
Action: Revise Table 8.3.1 on pages 2-4.
Submitter's substantiation: Extend the utility of this table
by incorporating the European Zone system of designating hazardous
(classified) locations and noting the wiring methods and electrical
utilization devices that can be used in them. This should be done
quickly so that the revised table can be proposed for incorporation
into
the 2011 edition of the NEC.
Technical validity: The Technical Committee on Automotive and
Marine Service Stations has revised the table to show the proper Zone
designations. These new Zone designations correlate with NEC Art. 505.
The reorganized and simplified table also features several new
footnotes
and highlights relationships to NEC Articles 511 and 514.
To review the "Emergency Nature" text and view the Revised Table
8.3.1 for this proposed TIA, click
here and review the text on pages 1 through 5.
This TIA has been published for public review and comment. Comments
should be filed with the Secretary,
Standards Council by June 12, 2009. No form is required, but
your comments should be submitted on company letterhead. Please
identify
the TIA number when submitting your comments. The Standards Council
will
review the technical committees' ballot results, the public comments,
and any other information that has been submitted when it considers the
issuance of the TIA at its August 4-6, 2009 meeting.
