AGC to Sponsor
Development of Universal Document Exchange
Washington, D.C.-based Associated General Contractors
of
America (AGC) recently reached an agreement with the National Institute
of Building Sciences (NIBS) for the development of AGCxml, a set of
standard industry schemes for exchanging electronic data among A/E/C
business-process software applications.AGCxml will be one of the few
document-exchange standards to address the interoperability issue in
the
construction industry, enabling any software products or tools using
AGCxml to exchange information in a manner that is recognizable between
authors using different software systems. AGCxml is intended to
facilitate the reliable, electronic exchange of the
business-to-business
transactional data created by owners, contractors, and design
professionals in the course of every design and construction project
and
found in such documents or forms as owner/contractor agreements, change
orders, and requests for information.

with
AEMC's PowerPad Model 3945. Record trends and capture transients,
events, and screen shots all at the same time. Review it on screen or

Faulty
Satellite TV Installations Found in Minnesota
Dish Network affiliate Galaxy 1 Marketing, Bettendorf,
Iowa, has recently agreed to inspect 6,700 satellite TV systems
installed
in Minnesota between 2004 and 2005. The Minnesota Department of Labor
and Industry's random sampling of 100 installations discovered that 80
didn't meet the state's electrical code. The department said the
improper installations increase the risk of lightning blowing out
electronic gear, starting a fire, or injuring people, although no
injuries or fires have been tied to the systems. According to the
department, faulty grounding was the most common problem.

Michigan Poll
Reports
"Lack of Time" as Biggest Excuse for Not Teaching Workplace
Safety
In a recent poll of 700 Michigan business owners,
operators, and managers, 25% of participants said that not having
enough
time was "the greatest barrier" in educating their workers on staying
safe. The survey, conducted by Educational, Political, Industrial and
Consumer Market Research Analysis (EPIC-MRA), Lansing, Mich., and
sponsored by Accident Fund Insurance Company of America, reported that
11% of participants said that high employee turnover was the biggest
barrier, and 7% of the participants each blamed availability of
information and cost of training. Thirty-eight percent of respondents
said that they were undecided as to what is the biggest barrier in
providing workplace safety education."Fewer accidents and healthier
employees would mean lower insurance costs for Michigan businesses,"
says Ed Sarpolus, vice president of EPIC-MRA. "If the owners/managers
have no focus on workplace safety and preventive health education, they
cannot expect to have these healthier employees or fewer accidents."
