(NAOD), Palatine, Ill., has joined Fix Housing First, a coalition of

Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) that are dedicated to creating a
housing recovery plan that will help revive the U.S. economy. As part

DOT Approves
Virginia Rail Transit Spur
On January 7, U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E.
Peters approved a $900-million rail transit spur in northern Virginia
as
part of a multi-year federal funding commitment toward the project's
$2.6-billion first phase. The $900 million would help finance an
11.6-mile first stage of a planned 23-mile extension of the Washington
Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Orange Line. The proposed "full
funding grant agreement" goes to Congress for a 60-day review.To

DOE Releases
OpenStudio Plug-in for EnergyPlus Simulation Software
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently released
OpenStudio, a free energy design plug-in that works seamlessly within
the Google SketchUp 3D drawing environment. The plug-in simplifies use
of DOE's EnergyPlus simulation software, which identifies potential
energy savings by modeling lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation,

OSHA
Issues Citations to Massachusetts Plant
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) recently cited Flagg-Palmer Precast for 35
alleged violations of workplace health and safety standards, including
ungrounded or unprotected electrical equipment or wiring, at its
Oxford,
Mass., manufacturing plant. The concrete products manufacturer faces a
total of $76,900 in proposed fines following an OSHA inspection
prompted
by employee complaints.The citations addressed no formal written
program, hardware, and training to instruct employees in shutting down
machines' power sources to prevent their unintended startup during
maintenance; an ungrounded extension cord; and exposed live electrical
parts. The company has 15 business days from receipt of its citations
and penalties to meet with OSHA or to contest them to the independent
Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
