GPS LNA Requires Few External Parts

Primped for GPS, ISM, and WiMax applications, the MGA-231T6 low-noise amplifier (LNA) comes in a 2 mm x 1.3 mm x 0.4 mm package and requires only four or five external matching components. The LNA relies on the company’s proprietary GaAs enhancement-mode pHEMT process to achieve high gain with a very low noise figure. Specifications include a noise figure of 1 dB typical, gain of 17.1 dB, and a shutdown current of less than 0.4 µA. Other features include a CMOS-compatible shutdown pin and adjustable current via a single external resistor. Pricing for the MGA-231T6 with variable current and shutdown features is $0.55 each/1,000. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, San Jose, CA. (800) 235-0312.

32-bit MCUs Flaunt Large On-Chip SRAM

Poised for embedded applications in the industrial and consumer sectors, the SH7266 and SH7267 32-bit MCUs pack 1.5 MB of SRAM, an increase of 50% from the 1 MB of earlier SH7260 Series devices. The extra SRAM can be used as a display frame buffer or as a work area for storing programs or data. The SH7266 is available in a 144-pin QFP package and the SH7267 in a 176-pin QFP package. Other features include an SH2A-FPU CPU core and a maximum operating frequency of 144 MHz. For pricing, call RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.

Components & Assemblies

High-Flux LED Flaunts Three Critical Properties

The company unveils its latest white LED prototype with a claim that it is the first to offer the three important properties that are essential for general illumination apps. These are a color temperature of 3,000K, color rendering index of 82, and an efficiency of 104 lm/W. Reportedly, the pleasant light from the component is the result of an advanced conversion process. At 3,000K, light color is similar to that of a halogen lamp with its color location on the Planckian curve and the light is exactly white, showing no shift to the green spectral region. With an operating current of 350 mA and a surface area of 1 mm2, the prototype achieves a brightness of 124 lm. For more details, call OSRAM OPTO SEMICONDUCTORS, San Jose, CA. (866) 993-5211.

Optical Encoder Logs In As Market’s Smallest

Introduced as the industry’s smallest shaft-type optical encoder, the MES3 sports a body diameter of 5 mm and a 1.5-mm shaft diameter. Highly viable for medical and robotics applications, the component reportedly provides very precise position and speed information, rivaling the performance of encoders more than three times its size. The MES3 is available with resolutions of 64 or 1,024 ppr with an option of line-driver or open-collector output signals. Additional features include an operating temperature range from 0° to +60°C and a maximum speed of 6,000 rpm. Price for the MES3 is $799 in OEM quantities. CUI INC., Tualatin, OR. (800) 275-4899.
