Additional paper added to Prep Plants Session on Thursday May 1st

Design, Construction & Commissioning of Xiang Shui CPP in Guizhou Province, China
David Selent, Vice President of Engineering, KRS Mining Equipment & Technology, Beijing, China

This paper will discuss the engineering, construction & commissioning of a 715 tph ROM Jig steam coal preparation plant and a 250 tph coking coal CPP in Guizhou Prov. China. The coking coal CPP incorporates the following circuits:
  • Three product HM cyclone to clean 50 x 1.2 mm
  • Teeter Bed Separator (TBS) to clean 1.2 x 0.25 mm
  • Wemco Smart Cell Flotation to clean 0.25 x 0mm

Challenges associated with introducing latest western coal preparation technology into a remote part of China will be reviewed.

New Symposium Annouced

New one day symposium, April 28, to be featured at CoalPrep'08

 Loading & Transportation of Coal in the 21st Century

CoalPrep’08 will take an in-depth look at “Loading and Transportation of Coal in the 21st Century”.  Bill McHale, Kanawha Scales, put the symposium together.  He will introduce the program with a review of coal loadout systems. 

The various presenters will be: Steve Crum, CSX Railroad, who will discuss issues in scheduling and managing unit train movements; Neal Bates, Norfolk Southern Corp., who will address development and implementation of enhancements to NS’s proprietary coal transportation management system; then Steve and Neal will answer questions regarding coal transportation issues; Paul Reagan, Standard Laboratories, will address the reporting and integration of coal quality lab data, sampling operation and performance, and analyzer systems with train loading operations; and finally Duane Bennett, KSS, will review the continuing evolution of train loadout systems

Russia's Severstal to spend $140 mln on coal unit
Russian miner and steel maker will invest $140 million upgrading its Arctic coal mines this year, 4 percent more than last year, the company said on Tuesday. Severstal, majority owned by billionaire Alexei Mordashov, said in a statement the investment would allow the company to upgrade mines belonging to its Vorkutaugol subsidiary. Read More..

Ispat parent buys coal assets abroad
Calcutta, Feb. 6: Global Steel Holdings Ltd, the parent company of Ispat Industries, has acquired two coking coal blocks in Mozambique. Tata Steel and ArcelorMittal have also recently bought coal acreages in the east African country. Read More...

ICG reports $16 million loss
International Coal Group warned investors to brace for a non-cash $110 million after-tax charge atop the fourth-quarter and full year 2007 losses it reported Thursday. ICG said it lost $16 million, or 11 cents per share, in the three months ended Dec. 31. The company lost $97,000, or broke even per share, in the same period of 2006. Read More...
