In preparation for the International Coal Preparation Congress, scheduled to be held in conjunction with CoalPrep in the United States in 2010, the International Organizing committee will meet in April to do preliminary planning. IOC representatives will be attending from: Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom

The United Kingdom representative, Douglas Jenkinson, will be a Keynote speaker at CoalPrep this year. Mr. Jenkinson is the sole member of the IOC who attended the ICPC meeting last held in the United States in 1960 in Pittsburgh.

Tariff controversy halts setting up of power plants
ISLAMABAD: The controversy over the upfront tariff for coal based plants still persists and private sector is not willing to set up coal based power plants below 10.5 cents/Kwh, sources in Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) told Daily Times on Thursday. Sources said that a private sector firm has approached the PPIB for tariff determination for its proposed investment in Thar coal in power generation. This private firm has sought 10.5-cents/Kwh upfront tariffs for setting up coal-based power plants in Thar coal. Read More..

Xstrata Coal selects Matrikon Suite as corporate solution for Process Information Management System (PIMS) in Coal Handling and Preparation Plants
EDMONTON, March 13 /CNW/ - Matrikon (TSX:MTK) today announced that it had signed an agreement with Xstrata Coal for the standardization of Matrikon(TM) Downtime Reporter and Matrikon(TM) Production Manager software for the implementation of Process Information Management Systems (PIMS) throughout Xstrata Coal's Coal Handling and Preparation Plants (CHPPs). Matrikon's PIMS solution integrates seamlessly with the plant control system to provide accurate and timely production information. This information is accessed and presented via a web-based visualization layer for analysis and reporting of the coal production process. The solution includes Matrikon(TM) Downtime Reporter together with Matrikon(TM) Production Manager, which are designed specifically for downtime reporting, production accounting, plan management, materials management and train management requirements. Mechanic Killed at W.Va. Coal Prep Plant
A contract mechanic at a coal prep plant was fatally crushed when a metal plate under a bulldozer fell on him while he was working on the machine, authorities said Thursday. John G. Workman was killed Wednesday while working at Appalachian Fuels LLC's Alloy Prep Plant No. 1 in Boomer, said Ron Wooten, director of the state Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training. Workman, 47, was alone and there were no witnesses, Wooten said Thursday. Read More...

Rail condemnation trial starts
Attorneys made opening remarks Tuesday in federal court in Casper in Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Co.'s condemnation case against several landowners in northeast Wyoming. Ten years of planning and a pending merger with a well-financed railroad company should give DM&E authority to condemn some 1,200 linear acres of private property in northeast Wyoming, according to the railroad's attorneys. Senator Jones' Dam Safety Bill Clears Kentucky Senate
In October 2000, a retention pond at an Inez coal-preparation plant gave way, releasing approximately 306 million gallons of coal waste into the streams. A State of Emergency was declared for 10 counties in northeast Kentucky, where the coal slurry impacted more than 75 miles of streams in Kentucky and West Virginia, reaching as far as the Ohio River.
