Halloween Tales


Once again, October has proved to be a busy month. My notebook is filled with interesting information and quotes from a wide range of sources across the country, some from group discussions and therefore unattributed. Here are my tricks and treats to think about this Halloween weekend:

Ergonomics. “We’re seeing Kevlar belts being worn with suspenders to help take the weight off of the shoulders,” said Ken Busch of Scott/Honeywell, during a turnout gear presentation.

California State Fire Association Addresses Bandwidth Issues

The California State Fire Association (CSFA) recently addressed a nagging problem. The association’s computer network had plenty of throughput, but lacked reliability and available bandwidth. National Guard Trains Botswana Fire Officers

In the first civil-to-civil exchange of the State Partnership for Peace Program, a team of fire officers from North Carolina traveled to Gaborone, Botswana, to conduct a workshop for fire officers from around the country, said Robert Borgesi, a captain with the Chapel Hill (N.C.) Kelvin Cochran: On Leadership
Recently appointed U.S. Fire Administrator Kelvin Cochran has been in the fire service for more than 28 years, with experience in firefighting, EMS, hazardous materials, public education, research and development, personnel management, and administration, with special emphasis in training and strategic planning. Prior to his appointment, Cochran served as chief of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, where he coordinated homeland-security and emergency-preparedness initiatives between the city of Atlanta and the Atlanta Fulton County Emergency Management Agency.
