When you look at the specs for an aerial, you often see terms like tip load, structural safety factor and jack spread. These terms have very specific definitions, and you need to know what they really mean in order to understand how an aerial will perform.

The Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission announced the names of more than 50 people who have recently been certified or recertified as Master Emergency Vehicle Technicians.


Tanker Rollover Kills Assistant Chief
The assistant chief of an Indiana fire department died when a tanker left the roadway and rolled over.

Pierce Introduces New Models for 2007

Pierce introduced its new Velocity and Impel chassis at the Fire-Rescue International show in Dallas. The new chassis are specifically designed to accommodate 2007 engines and feature improvements in five key areas — increased space, storage and clutter management, safety and visibility, seats and maintenance.

Crimson Fire Debuts Rapid-Response Pumper

Crimson Fire debuted its new Dakota rapid-response pumper at the International Association of Fire Chiefs Fire-Rescue International show.

Ferrara Completes 2007 Cummins Installation
Cummins has approved Ferrara's installation of 2007 EPA-certified ISM engines up to 500hp in the new Inferno chassis. The new configuration was displayed at Fire-Rescue International in Dallas.


Los Angeles Evaluates Battalion Chief Vehicle

Los Angeles City Fire Department is evaluating a new command vehicle for its battalion chiefs. The vehicle features a compact rescue-style body that provides significantly more access and storage space than a traditional SUV.

EVT Certification Commission Nationwide Test
Oct. 14, more than 100 locations in the United States and Canada
EVT certification tests for fire apparatus (F-series), ambulance (E-series), ARFF (A-series), law enforcement (L-series) and management (M-series). Pre-registration not later than Sept. 22 is required.

Covers the function, location and maintenance of important components and systems on the American LaFrance custom chassis apparatus. See course description for prerequisites.

Hale Pump Maintenance and Operations Seminar

They will be followed by a special EVTCC test session on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required for the seminar. Separate pre-registration with EVTCC is required for the test.

E-ONE Electrical Two Service Training Class
Oct. 23-27, Ocala, Fla.
A five-day class covering advanced electrical theory with emphasis on troubleshooting. It includes material on load management, transmission and engine interfaces, Jacobs engine brakes, Telma retarders, starting systems and pump interlocks. Prerequisites are either the E-ONE Electrical One class or the EVTCC F-4 certification.

National EVT Training Symposium Fall Session
Oct. 23-27, Daytona Beach, Fla.
