Firefighter Killed While Marking Hydrants
A firefighter was killed while marking hydrant locations along a roadway in North Carolina.


Pierce Names President of AK Specialty Vehicles
Pierce Manufacturing appointed Mike Conger as president of AK Specialty Vehicles and vice president Operations and Lean for the Fire and Rescue Group. AK Specialty Vehicles was acquired by parent company Oshkosh Truck Corp. in August 2006 and is a leader in mobile medical, homeland security command and communications vehicles.

Danko Introduces Unimog Urban/Wildand Pumper

Danko Emergency Equipment of Snyder, Neb., displayed its Ultimate All-Terrain Urban Interface/Wildland Vehicle at the IAFC's Fire-Rescue International in Dallas. The unit features a Unimog 4x4 chassis for extra load capacity and excellent off-road capability.

Pierce Plans to Drop Some Models
Pierce is planning to phase out several of its current models over the next few months, to be replaced by the new Velocity and Impel chassis that were introduced at Fire-Rescue International.


Recent Apparatus Deliveries
Whenever a department writes the specifications for a new apparatus, part of the process should be to look at apparatus being delivered to other departments around the country. What are they specifying? Why did they select a particular chassis or component? How do they feel about their choices now that the apparatus are delivered?

The Florida Division of Forestry recently specified Darley engine-driven pumps on seven wildland engines and more than 65 skid-mount pump/tank units for use throughout the state.

ConocoPhillips has introduced its Guardol ECT premium, synthetic CJ-4 motor oil for use in 2007 engines.
