Air/Light Units Improve Efficiency, Safety

Mobile air/light units are finding homes with fire departments across the county. These multifunctional vehicles provide breathing air, electrical power and area lighting to help emergency personnel work more efficiently and stay on the scene longer. They also can dramatically improve the safety of rescuers and victims alike in a variety of life-threatening situations.

Hale Names Northeast Regional Sales Manager
Ed Sutch has joined Hale Products Fire Suppression Group as the Northeast Regional Sales Manager. He has over 25 years of experience in the fire industry and is a volunteer firefighter for the Glastonbury (Conn.) Volunteer Fire Department.


Apparatus
KME Extends L.A. County Consortium Offer

KME is well into the delivery phase of a large apparatus order for Los Angeles County Fire Department. Several dozen add-on orders have already been received from other departments, and more are expected as the consortium purchase opportunity has been extended until September 2007.

Eugene Orders the First Pierce Velocity
Eugene (Ore.) Fire & EMS has ordered the first Pierce apparatus built on the new Velocity chassis. The order includes five pumpers and a 100-foot aerial platform. Delivery is scheduled to start in mid-2007.


FDIC to Offer Apparatus Safety Instruction
The annual FDIC Show and Conference is scheduled for April 16–21 in Indianapolis. This year's event includes instruction sessions to help departments improve apparatus safety on the road and at the scene.


Recent Apparatus Deliveries

Whenever a department writes the specifications for a new apparatus, part of the process should be to look at apparatus being delivered to other departments around the country. What are they specifying? Why did they select a particular chassis or component? How do they feel about their choices now that the apparatus are delivered?

Components
TFT Introduces High-Flow Intake Valve
The new Jumbo BIV from TFT features an oversize waterway and triple surface coatings to produce a corrosion-resistant ball intake valve that can deliver 2,000gpm with only 3psi friction loss.


Caterpillar Gets C13 and C15 Certification
Caterpillar received EPA certification for its C13 and C15 engines. The news follows an earlier certification for the C7 engine.


Hale Introduces New Portable Pump
The Hale HPX75-B11 MaxStream portable pump has been developed specially for the demands of firefighting situations. According to Hale, the higher pressures and light weight make this pump ideal for use in truck-mount applications or as a versatile portable pump.

The National EVT Fall Symposium, held in Daytona Beach during the week of October 23, drew over 50 technicians for the EVTCC review classes.

E-ONE Aerial Two Training Class
Feb. 5-9, Ocala, Fla.
This five-day class covers the disassembly and re-assembly of E-ONE aerial devices. It also reviews troubleshooting techniques and maintenance tips to optimize the performance of aerials.

E-ONE Electrical One Service Training Class
Feb. 12-16, Ocala, Fla.
A five-day class covering basic electrical theory with emphasis on reading schematics, use of diagnostic readers and proper crimping techniques. It includes an overview of AC and DC systems with information on power distribution, load management and WABCO ABS/ATC.
