Feature
Understanding Vehicle Maneuverability
By Chris Cavette, In Service Senior Editor

Product Review
Weldon V-MUX Multiplex System
By Chris Cavette, In Service Senior Editor
In the past, each apparatus manufacturer offered a different multiplex electrical system. That has changed in the past few years, and the Weldon V-MUX multiplex electrical system is now available from more than 40 fire, rescue, and ambulance manufacturers.

People
Hoop Named Florida EVT of the Year
John Hoop, a fleet/fire technician at Orlando International Airport, holds master-level EVT certifications for fire apparatus and ARFF vehicles, as well as master-level ASE certification for autos and heavy trucks.

Oshkosh Announces Personnel Changes
The Oshkosh Fire and Emergency Group now includes Pierce, Medtec, the Oshkosh Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting division, and several other related companies in the United States and Europe.

A speeding SUV rammed into a fire apparatus as the two vehicles entered an intersection in a densely populated urban area in Michigan. Both drivers were killed.

Apparatus
Winter Park, Medtec Design Safer Ambulance

Pierce Says Previous Damage Caused Aerial Accident
Pierce Manufacturing Inc. reported that the Pierce 100-foot medium-duty aerial ladder involved in an accident with the Boston Fire Department on Feb. 20 had been damaged in one or more previous incidents. Pierce believes this damage led to the malfunction.

PolyBilt Bodies Hold Tough In Florida
After three years of service, PolyBilt bodies continue to hold tough for Marion County Fire-Rescue in central Florida. Delivered in 2004, the RescuPak and PolyPak bodies provide the county with maximum firefighting and rescue capabilities at a fraction of the cost.

Foster Rescue Delivers Emergency Units to Oklahoma
Foster Rescue delivered eight technical rescue trailers to the Oklahoma Department of Homeland Security for use in disaster management throughout the state.

New Deliveries
Recent Apparatus Deliveries

Whenever a department writes the specifications for a new apparatus, part of the process should be to look at apparatus being delivered to other departments around the country. What are they specifying? Why did they select a particular chassis or component? How do they feel about their choices now that the apparatus are delivered?

Components
Castrol Oil Now Exceeds 2007 Requirements
The new oil formulation exceeds the API CJ-4 specs for 2007 EPA-certified engines, including the Cummins ISM specification for soot-related wear. It is backward-compatible, which means it can be used on pre-2007 engines as well.

Raydan Achieves Canadian Registration
As listed on Transport Canada's Web site, Raydan Manufacturing Ontario, a division of Raydan Manufacturing Inc., is registered for final stage, body and equipment; final stage, GAWR/GVWR increase; final stage, wheelbase alterations; intermediate stage, body and equipment; and intermediate stage, GAWR/GVWR increase.

National Fire Fighter Has New Catalog
The catalog contains a variety of equipment and supplies for rural and wildland firefighting, including a complete range of custom slip-on pump and tank units.

Fol-Da-Tank Upgrades Tanks
Fol-Da-Tank has released a new safety attachment for its folding-frame water tanks to keep personnel from pinching their fingers and hands at the folding points.
