Basic Electrical Troubleshooting

Electrical problems can put emergency vehicles out of service as fast as flat tires. Technicians who follow some basic electrical troubleshooting procedures often can get these vehicles up and running with a minimum of time and expense.

The May 2007 issue of FIRE CHIEF featured Stanley, Iowa, and the improvements it made to its water supply. Those improvements were put to the test recently and helped save the town from a wind-driven fire.

In Service Opens Nominations for EVT of the Year
FIRE CHIEF magazine is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the In Service 2007 Emergency Vehicle Technician of the Year. The award will be given to one emergency vehicle technician who has made an outstanding effort to promote a high standard of excellence in quality and safety in emergency vehicles.


Technicians Achieve Master Level Certification
The Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission announced that several technicians have been certified or recertified as Master Technicians.


Three Die in Apparatus Accidents
A career captain and two volunteer firefighters died in separate accidents while responding to emergency calls in fire department apparatus.

Reflective Dots Designed for Diamond Plate
A new product allows departments to install reflective patterns on rear compartment doors and other body surfaces covered with diamond plate.

Cole Hersee Offers Locking Switch

Fire apparatus technicians can certify their qualifications to work on foam systems by passing a new Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission exam.


Apparatus Maintenance Section to Hold Workshop
Technicians who plan to attend Fire-Rescue International in Atlanta also can enroll for the Apparatus Maintenance Section Workshop before the show.


Cummins Approves B20 Biodiesel Fuel
Cummins announced the approval of B20 biodiesel blends for use in its 2002 and later emissions-compliant ISX, ISM, ISL, ISC and ISB engines. This approval also includes the recently released 2007 engines.


National EVT Academy Scores Another Success
More than 180 emergency vehicle technicians and mechanics registered for classes as part of the National EVT Training Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla., during the week of May 14–18.
