Even the smallest departments should keep some basic maintenance records to help spot recurring problems, ease future maintenance issues and even keep departments out of court.

Oshkosh Reorganizes Fire and Emergency Group
Oshkosh announced promotions of three key managers within the Fire and Emergency Group as part of an overall reorganization.


Federal Signal Makes Changes in Fire Rescue Group
Peter Guile replaced Marc Gustafson as president of E-ONE effective July 17. Gustafson is leaving the company.


Firefighter Killed While Loading Hose
A volunteer firefighter in Illinois was killed while picking up hose at the scene of a vehicle fire along an interstate highway.

Feds Order Mobile Evacuation Buses

Sartin Services developed the Mobile Evacuation Bus for the U.S. government, specially designed to handle mass-casualty incidents around the Washington, D.C., area.


Ferrara Introduces the Inundator
Ferrara displayed its Inundator pumper at the Texas A&M Industrial Firefighting School in July. The pumper can deliver up to 3,000gpm from draft and can generate even higher flowrates through its three monitors and four large-diameter discharges.


Dodge Offers Medium-Duty Ram Chassis
The new Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 models for 2008 are designed with gross vehicle weight ratings of 14,000 and 19,500 pounds respectively, can be specified with a diesel engine and an automatic transmission, and are suitable for a variety of fire and rescue applications.

Darley Pump School

Training on all aspects of the operation and maintenance of Darley pumps. The school is offered at no charge to fire department personnel, but participants must pay for their own travel, lodging, food and incidentals.

E-ONE Electrical Two Service Training Class

A 5-day class covering advanced electrical theory with emphasis on troubleshooting. It includes material on load management, transmission and engine interfaces, Jacobs engine brakes, Telma retarders, starting systems and pump interlocks. Prerequisites are either the E-ONE Electrical One class or the EVTCC F-4 certification.

Hale Pump Maintenance and Operations Seminar
Oct. 22-26, Conshohocken, Pa.
Includes instruction on pump design, construction, components, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and testing. The first day includes optional instruction on CAFS; the last day includes an optional EVTCC test for those who have made prior arrangements with the EVT Certification Commission. National EVT Fall Training Symposium
Oct. 22-26, Daytona Beach, Fla.
This four-day event offers a variety of review classes for technicians and mechanics wishing to prepare for the EVTCC certification tests. Tests offered on Oct. 26 for those who pre-register with the EVTCC at http://www.evtcc.org.

Heartland Emergency Apparatus Technicians (HEAT) Training Session
Oct. 23-24, Wichita, Kan.
Training on emergency vehicle electrical systems by noted speaker Dennis Litchenstine to help prepare students for the EVTCC F-4, E-2, and Law Enforcement tests. EVTCC tests will be offered on the afternoon of the last day for those who pre-register with EVTCC. Lunch to be provided by the sponsors on both days.
