FMCSA's Hill: A look back, a look forward

John Hill has few regrets as his two-and-a -half-year tenure as Chief Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA) winds down. Hill, who joined the FMCSA in June 2003 as Chief Safety Officer and Assistant Administrator before being named Chief Administrator in May 2006, believes big improvements have been made to the safety profile of the trucking industry on his watch.

Teamsters ink new labor deal with YRC
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has voted to modify its current labor agreement with YRC Worldwide, accepting a 10% reduction in gross wages and mileage rates and a suspension of a cost-of-living adjustment through March 31, 2013 in exchange for a 15% ownership stake in the company.

Freightliner announced yesterday that the company will lay off more than 2,000 employees in North Carolina, according to The Charlotte Observer.
