Diesel prices rise seven cents

The average diesel price in the U.S. increased seven cents to $2.09 per gallon for the week of March 23rd, according to the Energy Information Administration, the first time prices have gone up in the past ten weeks.

DTNA's Patterson looks at the industry

In June, Chris Patterson, president & CEO of Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), will give the keys to his executive office to Martin Daum, who will become the new head of the company that builds Freightliner, Western Star and FCCC trucks, as well as Thomas Built school buses and Detroit Diesel engines. Patterson is retiring after 32 years in the commercial vehicle industry, 11 of them with DTNA.

Bringing SCR to N.A. takes teamwork
Select members of the North American SCR Stakeholder Group--including Daimler Trucks North America, Detroit Diesel, Freightliner, Western Star Trucks, Blue1USA DEF Dispensing Systems, Cummins Inc. and Cummins Filtration, Hino Trucks, Koch Industries, Balcrank, Colder Products and Mauser--offered an overview of the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) infrastructure being developed to enable the rollout of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology by many diesel engine makers to meet the EPA 2010 emissions rules.

Western Star rolls out twin-steer 4900 FA
Western Star Trucks announced a new configuration option for its 4900 FA model series at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The OEM said the new set-forward 109-in. BBC twin steer is aimed at construction and severe-duty applications, such as West Coast mixers and “super dumps.” It features a three-degree wheel cut improvement over previous designs, to offer greater maneuverability for off-road applications.

Freightliner Cascadia gets Lectronix T7000 pre-wire option
Freightliner Trucks announced at the Mid-America Trucking Show that the Lectronix T7000 “Infotainment system” is now available as a pre-wire option on its Cascadia Class 8 model. Designed specifically for use in trucks, the T7000 combines truck navigation, voice, video and entertainment into one system, noted the OEM.
