Shore power for trucks at truckstops far from dead

That pioneering supplier of “shore power” systems to trucks at truck stops IdleAire Acquisition Co., LLC (formerly IdleAireTechnologies Corp.) shut down last month may have dampened enthusiasm for shore power as an idle-reduction solution. But idleAire’s demise by no means the end of efforts to make plug-in AC electrical power available to trucks.

Mitchell 1 unveils new truck-repair tool
Repair-Connect is a new tool designed by Mitchell 1 to shorten repair time and lower truck operating costs was introduced at the Technology and Maintenance Council 2010 annual meeting this week in Tampa. The company said Repair-Connect speeds up the repair process by taking an experienced technician using Mitchell 1 programs directly to the service information he needs by simply inputting the Diagnostic Trouble Code.

Doran enhances tire-pressure monitoring system
At the Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting this week in Tampa, Doran Manufacturing, unveiled improvements to its Doran 360 tire-pressure monitoring system. These include a new valve-stem mounted sensor that allows fleets to receive digital tire pressure and temperature data using Doran's handheld SmartLink tool.

Washington DC 2010 Blizzard

Transportation ground to a halt in early February 2010 following the biggest blizzard in Washington DC's history -- dropping a record 32 inches of snow on the nation's capital, eclipsing the 28-inch record set back in 1922 by the infamous "Knickerbocker" storm.
These photos, taken by local shutterbug Michael Kilcarr, show some of Washington's monuments and streets in the aftermath of the massive storm.
