EPA investigating Navistar engine certification

Navistar International Corp. has confirmed that it is under investigation by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over whether 7,600 engines manufactured in 2009 were properly certified under the Clean Air Act. Each violation carries a fine of up to $37,500— putting Navistar on the hook for as much as $285 million in fines.

Fleets up efforts to enforce cell-phone restrictions

TRW returns to heavy-duty aftermarket

Volvo Trucks Safety Award back for 2012
For the fourth consecutive year, Volvo Trucks has announced it will recognize two North American fleets for their commitment to safety through the Volvo Trucks Safety Award program. Recipients of the 2012 award will each receive $25,000 to be used toward their safety-related activities. The OEM said Michelin is again joining in sponsoring the Volvo Trucks Safety Award, which focuses on the importance of highway safety for the trucking industry and for all motorists.

Dot Transportation honors four-million miler
A driver with Mt. Sterling, IL-based Dot Transportation, Inc. (DTI), a subsidiary of Dot Foods, was recognized by the company recently for driving four million miles during his career. Dick Kramberg of Quincy, IL., who operates out of the food redistributor’s Mt. Sterling distribution center, was honored at the firm’s annual National Business Meeting in St. Louis by company leadership.

Kentucky to deploy PrePass weigh-in-motion technology

This spring, PrePass will assume operation of the 12 mainline pre-clearance inspection sites in Kentucky and install electronic truck weigh-in-motion technology-- which PrePass predicts will save the trucking industry nearly $27 million in operational costs and will reduce greenhouse gases and related emissions by 3,600 metric tons over the next 28 months.
