California city expects to cut
fleet costs with leasing program

Police officers in Arroyo Grande, Calif., soon will be patrolling
the streets in a new fleet of Dodge Chargers. The community's city
council recently gave its OK to a fleet leasing program that also will
put detectives and department staff in new Dodge Avengers and motorcycle
officers on new 1,300-cc Honda cycles. Several new Dodge Dakotas will be
added to the fleet as well.

Department of Justice issues
revised standard for body armor

Five years after a Forest Hills, Pa., police officer sustained
serious injuries from a gunshot that penetrated his body armor, the
Department of Justice's National Institute of Justice has unveiled a
