Study
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) and the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) have started a research study to examine
the enhancement of thermal performance of self-contained breathing
apparatus (SCBA) face pieces to increase the protection of firefighters.

Mile-High City tests pet-waste
management plan

The city and county of Denver, Colo., has set up a one-year pilot
project with Denver-based Poo Free Parks to improve pet waste
management. Poo Free Parks, a privately held firm, has installed and is
maintaining a minimum of 200 pet waste bag dispensers in 25 Denver-area
parks, at no cost to taxpayers.

ICMA report examines effectiveness
of stimulus package
As local and state governments begin to report their use of the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds, critics and
supporters of the stimulus package are debating how effective it has
been in improving the economy, according to a new report from the
Washington-based International City/County Management Association
(ICMA).

Big Apple seeks NYC web
domain

New York City government officials are seeking a qualified vendor to
assist the city in applying for and obtaining the ".nyc" top level
domain (TLD) web address. If the city acquires the TLD, that vendor
would work with the city on operating managing, maintaining and
marketing .nyc. A TLD is the last part of an Internet address, such as
.com, .gov or .edu.
