Pharmaceutical companies are continually developing new drugs and delivery methods, and liquid-drug formulations are no exception. Packaging for these drugs also continue to be updated and refined, and plastics are at the forefront.
The blow-fill-seal (B/F/S) method of packaging liquids in thermoplastics creates aseptic containers that keep contents sterile. Liquid drugs packaged via B/F/S are far less likely to be contaminated with salmonella, E. coli, staphylococcus, and other organisms that can cause complications ranging from diminished drug potency to infection.

Free White Paper - New Antimicrobial Technology Enhances Metal Coatings
| Antimicrobial materials have shown a limited ability to deliver microbe resistance as part of a comprehensive surface enhancement treatment–until now. General Magnaplate's new white paper demonstrates how it's now possible to specify a single coating that not only resists microbe growth but also provides protection against friction, wear, moisture, chemical exposures and more.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is one of those “best practices” that engineers routinely claim to follow. The reality, though, is that manufacturing often takes a back seat to functionality during the design process. With die-cast parts, ignoring manufacturability can be a particularly expensive mistake.
Parts designed without regard for die-casting’s DFM guidelines are more likely to require expensive secondary operations, such as finish machining or extra assembly steps. They may suffer from lower yields and quality problems, driving up scrap rates. In the worst cases, parts may even be impossible to cast and require an expensive redesign.

New white papers from HP and Intel:
Realistic User Productivity Comparisons for Upgrade Decision Making
AutoCAD® users can appreciate the rock-solid dependable performance they demand from HP and Intel® processor-based workstations. The Intel® Core™ and Xeon® processor-based workstation portfolio includes a wide range of machines that fit multiple user segments, from entry, mobile, essential, and digital workbench users.
Return on Innovation: Making Individuals More Productive
The value proposition for equipping technical and creative professionals has drastically changed. The unprecedented combination of economic pressure and technological advancement has rewritten the rules of how to do more with less. Teams may forego new hires or do the same work with fewer staff, yet they can avail themselves to new tools and techniques. The challenge then becomes how to equip these valuable and fewer number of professionals to be more productive and innovative.

The High Performance Foams division of Rogers Corp. will exhibit its BISCO MF-1 seating materials and BISCO L3 foams for rail-transport flooring systems at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) show, New Orleans, October 3 to 5, 2011. The booth, #5254, will feature a bullseye game where visitors can learn about MF-1 foam while competing to win an iPad.
MF-1 foam is a lightweight, flame retardant, silicone product that meets various flame, smoke and toxicity (FST) standards and improves rider comfort. L3 open-cell foams have stiffness and elasticity characteristics that help isolate railcar floors from vibration under all travel conditions.
