Low Profile Retaining Rings
Smalley Hoopster® Rings fit into much shallower grooves than regular snap rings or retaining rings. Where retaining rings once were not an option because of groove depth, the low profile, precision circularity & small radial size allow the Hoopster to be an unobtrusive component in the assembly, ideal for thin wall tubes. Hoopster Retaining Rings are easily installed without special tools. Standard sizes are stocked from 3/8" to 3" and offered in carbon and 302 stainless steel. Specials can be made with No-Tooling-Charges™. www.smalley.com/hoopster

Because the government says so

The government has been known to mandate technology be invented and used, as if our laws take trump the laws of physics and thermodynamics. Ken Korane points to one such instance and suggest others the government should consider.

Avoiding Stick-Slip Chatter in Low-Speed Bearings

Stick-slip chatter results from static friction in bearings temporarily stopping a shaft from turning. It can cause jerky starts and damage equipment. Here's how to combat the main culprits, low oil-film thickness and torsional vibration.

Drive belts

The Conti-V Varispeed wide V-belt is for variable-speed drives used in the agricultural industry. The Conti-V Multibelt is for use in clutch drives. The heavy-duty timing belts are energy efficient and virtually maintenance-free.
To transmit high power safely, the EPDM-based Varispeed belt has a low-stretch aramid tensile member, is maintenance-free, and temperature stable from –30 to 140°C.
The friction-reduced texture of the Multibelt ensures gentle and silent clutching. The belt's transverse-cord reinforcement provides high lateral stiffness, and allows for safe transmission of large loads.
ContiTech North America Inc.

Right-angle-gear drives

"Crown" gear drives feature heat-treated AGMA Class 10 spiral-bevel gears and nonmagnetic stainless-steel shafts for maintenance-free operation.
The drives’ precision-hardened and ground ball bearings handle speeds up to 2,000 rpm. The internal gears are permanently mounted to the shafts with locking pins for a resilient and durable connection in heavy-load applications.
The hand-shimmed and hand-assembled drives have perfect bearing and gear alignment. They are prelubricated during assembly, then completely enclosed in a heavy-duty anodized aluminum housing.
Standard two and three-way models are available with 1:1 and 2:1 speed ratios in shaft-diameter combinations of 3/8, ½, 5/8, and ¾ in.
Zero-Max Inc.
