Haiti in Crisis: How You Can Help

Contest Winner Hails from FedEx Event Department

Congratulations to Andy Eugenio, from the Sales Programs & Events Department at FedEx headquarters in Memphis, who won our recent drawing for a copy of Carol Krugman’s book, Global Meetings & Exhibitions. Eugenio was one of dozens of readers who contributed suggestions to Krugman’s article, “The A-to-Z List for International Meeting Planning.” We put out the call for ideas for the letter “Y,” and were delighted at the number of responses. One of Andy’s suggestions—year-end reporting—even made the cut and was added to Krugman’s list. (Another one—yummy F&B—didn’t, but we still liked the idea!)

Your International Partner: DMC or PCO?

Planning a meeting outside the United States requires some help from the locals. But there are a lot of local partners to choose from. We got in touch with Ovation Global DMC founders Patrick Sullivan and Padraic Gilligan to help us with the nuts and bolts—and acronyms, starting with the difference between a destination management company and a professional congress organizer.

Dubai Renames World’s Tallest Tower for its Neighbor

The long-awaited opening of the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Dubai, came with a surprise—the renaming of the structure after Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi leader who gave Dubai billions of dollars late last year to help its neighboring emirate out of a crushing debt crisis. Read what’s inside the tower—and why now might be the time to give Dubai a second look as a meeting destination.
