If you've followed my reviews, you already understand that Sony's HVR-Z7U and PMW-EX3 introduced a new type of zoom, a "hybrid" with an option of mechanical focusing or electronic focusing. Slipping the zoom ring a few millimeters forward or backward toggles between the two. A Small Act, Shot with AG-HVX200 P2 HD Handheld, Screens in U.S. Documentary Competition at 2010 Sundance Film Festival

A Small Act, premiering in U.S. Documentary Competition at Sundance 2010, tells the inspirational story of an impoverished boy in Kenya, Chris Mburu, whose life was dramatically changed when an anonymous Swedish woman sponsored his primary education. Shot in the town of Västerås, Sweden; in Geneva, Switzerland; and in the lush landscape of Kenya's central highlands with Panasonic's AG-HVX200 P2 HD handheld camcorder. A Small Act screens at the festival through Jan. 30, and prior to Sundance, it was picked up by HBO Documentary Films to air next summer. more>>

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Explores Deep-sea Volcano Activity Using Fujinon Lens

Fujinon announced the Advanced Imaging and Visualization Laboratory (AIVL) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) used a Fujinon HA13x4.5 wide angle Premier Series HD zoom lens on a prototype still and HD videocamera to capture the first video and still images of a deep-sea volcano actively erupting molten lava on the seafloor. more>>

Werner Herzog Inaugurates Ringling College of Art and Design Filmmaking Studio Laboratory with Onsite Lectures and Screenings

The Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab is bringing some of the world's most renowned filmmakers to Ringing College to work collaboratively with Ringling students on learning the process of motion picture and television development through working on actual projects. As the initial step in the production pipeline for any film or TV program, development is one of the most esoteric and difficult to teach. To this end, Ringling College has aligned with A-List directors, producers, screenwriters, and talent to provide real-world experience in the art and science of filmmaking through acquiring, developing, producing, and distributing top-tier content. more>>

Kodak Showcase at Clermont-Ferrand Highlights Student Films

Kodak will once again host a bevy of activities in support of student filmmaking at the 32nd International Short Film Festival and Market, which takes place here between Jan. 29 and Feb. 6. Kodak will host a program for the winners of its annual Film School Competition as well as a number of other Kodak-sponsored events. These activities provide the student finalists with an opportunity to showcase their films and an opportunity to display their talents and meet people who can help them realize their dreams. more>>
