At the A Designs booth, Peter Montessi (www.adesignsaudio.com) dropped the hammer,
literally. The new Hammer EQ is a dual mono three band Tube EQ for
$2650. It offers a filtering system that allows even harmonics to flow
through the 12AT7 tubes filtering out unwanted noise. TL Audio was showing
three new Ebony series rack units and the FatTrack, a tube production
suite for tracking, summing and monitoring for $2195. Soundfield showed
their DSF-2 Broadcast Microphone System specifically developed to
simultaneously provide both the surround and stereo soundscape at large
scale outside broadcast events such as football stadiums and concert
hall venues. The unit will pass both 5.1 and stereo mixes at the same
time offering a solution that can cover a number of applications. SSL had a
bevy of new products including two new vertical modules for X-Rack, an
X-Logic mic preamp with VHD and the Stereo Bus Compressor Module. Most
interesting was Pro-Convert, which enables workstation users to convert
session files from one format to another and can handle many commonly
used formats.

Essential Sound Products Pro AC Cords New at AES is the
Audio/Video Professional Series, with two AC power cord models (AVP-16,
AVP-14) and the A/V Power-Flow PRO power distribution strip with surge
suppression. The products use a multiple-conductor geometry that
replaces a single line or neutral conductor with several smaller
conductors that together have the equivalent wire gauge. This is said to
allow current to flow faster to the component's power supply, reducing
the distortion associated with underpowered equipment. Features include
EMI cable shielding, oversized grounds and Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity
copper conductors. Retail: AVP-16 (16-gauge) cord is $199; AVP-14
(14-gauge) is $299. AES booth #856.
