Berlin-based Ableton will offer Live 2.0 (U.S. MSRP: $399) next month for Mac OS 9/OS X and Windows. First-time Live users who purchase Live 1.5 or 1.0 this month can receive the upgrade for free; upgrades from V. 1.5 will be available online for $89 (boxed) or $69 (downloadable). Updated features turn the Arranger view into a full-blown multitrack recording/editing suite, including extensive real-time effects, parameter automation, unlimited undo, and much more. MORE


Harrison Adds to TVD Broadcast Consoles
Joining the TVD family is the Harrison TVD-SL digital broadcast console, which has all of the same features as the TVD but doubles the number of physical input faders. Unique to the SL is the optional built-in TFT video display, which adds up to 21 high-resolution, 6.4-inch LCD monitors that eliminates the need for a video wall. Closing In on Instrument Miking
DPA's new Instrument Microphone Kit allows for a number of close-mic placements on musical instruments. The kits contains a DPA 4061 miniature mic and an XLR adapter with a selection of unique mounting accessories for stringed, percussive and many other instrument types. MORE

The Metering Lights Are On
Soundcraft's MHR now offers LED bargraph metering with 16 LED meters to display auxiliary/group and matrix outputs. The mix L/R/C outputs are shown on VU meters. MORE

Soft Control for UA-700
Edirol released a software editor for its UA-700 on both Mac and PC for free update available for download at www.edirol.com. The UA-700 Editor allows the user to save and load unlimited effect arrangements, save and load patches as MIDI files, as well as share patches with fellow UA-700 users.

Dolby Brings DVD-A to PC
Dolby introduced Creative Technology's Sound Blaster Audigy 2 soundcard, which plays back DVD-A on PC, bringing the format to a wider audience. Users can play DVD-As on PCs already equipped with DVD drives after installing the soundcard. MORE

Le Mobile Tracks Dixie Chicks Live
Almost two weeks before the Dixie Chicks released their new Home CD, they performed all of the album's songs for two nights of sold-out shows at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Le Mobile was on hand to record the music for an NBC-TV special to air in December and a possible future DVD release. MORE

HSR Hosts Indie Film Mix
New York City-based HSR Studios mixer Steve Rosen recently finished up the final audio mix for BUN-BUN, a 35mm, 15-minute independent film, which premiered this October. In addition to Rosen, the team included sound designers Ed Walsh and Ben Zebelman. MORE

Endless Noise in Chocolate Heaven

Neve…AMS Neve
AMS Neve is once again creating the sound for the next James Bond thriller Die Another Day. Pinewood Studios' (Bucks, England), where John Hayward, chief mixer at Pinewood's Theatre 1, is currently preparing for the final mix on the studio's DFC console. Across the way, Geoff Foster returns to AIR Studios to work at the 88R to record and mix the film's soundtrack.

Neumann, Sennheiser Branch Out
"The Game of Love," the hit single from Santana's latest release Shaman, which features a duet between Michelle Branch and Santana, was co-produced and co-written by ex-New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander and Rick Nowels (Madonna, Dido, Jewel), and engineered by Chris Garcia. The piece was recorded at Nowels' studio in Santa Monica, Calif., where they relied on Neumann U67s for Branch's vocals and Neumann U87 and Sennheiser MD 421 combo for Santana's axe. MORE

Miranda and the SugarHill Gang
Joseph Miranda & The Wildcatters were currently in SugarHill Recording Studios (Houston) with engineer Steve Christensen to work on their self-produced CD, Straight Ahead. The project was mixed in Pro Tools|24 MIX-Cubed in Studio C. The band also recorded overdubs in both Studios A and B. MORE

International Update
All Systems Go in Puerto Rico
All Systems Go in Puerto Rico
When WIPR-TV wanted to upgrade its facilities, they brought in The Systems Group to spearhead the project, which will result in the construction of the first public broadcast station in Puerto Rico capable of broadcasting HDTV programming. The project consists of four studios, four production control rooms and two master control rooms, for a total of 15,000 square feet. The Systems Group handled complete system design and schematics, as well as install of mechanical/electrical systems; Janson Design Group is also on hand. MORE

France Buys Millions' Worth of Avid Systems
Avid's European headquarters has sold digital broadcasting solutions to France Televisions worth $8.6 million for a major newsroom system in Paris. Included in the sale were three Unity shared-media environments, 52 NewsCutter editing stations, 24 Xdeck direct-ingest devices and two Media Browse video-editing server systems. MORE

News From Down Under
JBL has completed its first international installation of Precision Directivity Series loudspeakers in sports/entertainment venue Vodafone Arena (Melbourne, Australia). Local A/V contractor Warehouse Sound Systems upgraded the venue's system to include three PD764 mid/high loudspeakers and three VS125HS low-frequency loudspeakers. MORE

Also located in Melbourne, recording studio Sing Sing has installed a 72-channel SSL XL 9000K in its brand-new 5.1 mixing room. Owners Kaj Dahlstrom and Phil Butson have the room set up with 2-inch and 1/2-inch analog machines, as well as Sony 3324/48 and Pro Tools|MIXPlus and HD3.

Meyer Sound Helps Vienna "Wake Up"
Vienna's Raimundtheater has upgraded its loudspeaker system for premier of a new Austrian production, Wake Up. Sound designer Andreas Fabianek chose to augment the current Meyer system with four M2D Compact Curvilinear Array loudspeakers as a center cluster with four CQ-1 Wide-Coverage Main loudspeakers for primary left/right FOH system. Unprecedented Sound in Middle East
Future Television Network (Beirut, Lebanon) recently installed a 72-input ATI Paragon II console in its newly built, 4,000-square-foot Studio B. The console was specified by Philippe Tohme, a consultant to the network's sound department to handle FOH, monitor and broadcast mixes.

GoGirlsMusic.com, Onstage magazine and The American Liver Foundation present the GoGirlsMusicFest "Get Hip To Hep C," a series of concerts across the country to raise awareness of Hepatitis C.
