RME Micstasy
Preamp
RME's new Micstasy microphone preamp combines an analog preamp with a
digital preamp/converter, and both signal paths operate simultaneously.
It offers eight high-end mic preamps and an 8-channel line amplifier
with XLR and TRS inputs, with digitally controlled gain in 0.5dB steps.
The unit also functions as an 8-channel A/D converter that converts
microphone signals, line signals from -55 dBu to +30 dBu, and instrument
signals. According to RME, the digital outputs deliver the same signal

launched Version 1.2 of its dScope III audio analyzer software. The new
version provides tools for acoustic measurements and another package for

Lexicon Alpha Desktop Recording Studio Lexicon Pro's new
Alpha Desktop Recording Studio is a bus-powered 2x2x2 USB I/O mixer

Tri-Trap bass trap, which was tested at the Riverbank Acoustical
Laboratories. The company states that Tri-Trap absorbs frequencies at 50

frequencies, it also absorbs higher frequencies, creating smooth sound

SugarHill Studios Teams with Apple Computer for Seminar
SugarHill Recording Studios' (Houston) president Dan Workman
will present a seminar at the Apple Store in The Woodlands, Texas, on

Computer's "Made on a Mac" series. Workman will focus on using Apple
hardware running audio applications such as Apple's Logic Pro and
GarageBand, and Digidesign's Pro Tools for audio and music production.

'Superman
Returns' With Klein + Hummel
"The Man of Steel" makes his long-awaited return to the
big screen at the end of June with a little help from Klein + Hummel.
Casey Stone (pictured) mixed the original soundtrack for Superman
Returns, composed by John Ottman, in 5.1 for the theater and in
stereo for the CD release using the Klein + Hummel monitor setup that he
has been using for more than two years. MORE
Recent Projects at Chicago Recording Company The Cupid
Players, Chicago's all-musical sketch comedy troupe, visited Chicago
Recording Company (CRC; Chicago) to record their second album with
engineer Mathieu Lejeune; Todd Fitch assisted. Also recording with
Lejeune was St. Louis native Phil Jones, who came into record vocals for
his upcoming album; Dusty Robenaldt assisted. MORE
Chris McLernon Relies on API Lunchbox Recording
engineer/composer Chris McLernon (pictured) was tapped to record singer
London Weidberg for a song that was included in the NBC show
Vegas. Rather than have Weidberg come to his studio, Two Heads
Music in Charleston, S.C., McLernon packed up his API Lunchbox -- which
includes a 3124 discrete 4-channel mic/line preamp and a 512C discrete
mic/line preamp -- and went to Weidberg. MORE
615 Music Creates New Theme Song for NBC's "Today Show" 615
Music created, produced and delivered the new promotional theme song for
NBC's Today Show entitled "It's a New Day." The new song began to
air following Katie Couric's highly publicized departure from that
program, and promotes the show's upcoming new co-anchor, Meredith
Vieira, who begins September 1. The new song was written by Greg
Barnhill and Randy Wachtler of 615 Music. MORE
Lectrosonics and DPA Capture Antique Instruments and Classical
Music A combination of DPA miniature microphones and Lectrosonics
Digital Hybrid Wireless systems captured classical music and instruments
for the Giovanni String Quartet. The quartet, made up of members of the
Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, set up a recording session to
produce video and audio samples for promo packages, and to update their
Website. For the session, the quartet played on a collection of
instruments all made between 1745 and 1780 by the Gagliano family of
luthiers in Naples, Italy. MORE
Music Recording News from The Village Recorder Australian
singer/slide guitarist Kara Grainger (pictured) has been busy tracking
her debut solo album for Craving Records at The Village (West L.A.) with
producer/instrumentalist David Kalish (Rickie Lee Jones). Backing
Grainger, who has been compared to Bonnie Raitt, is an all-star line-up
of L.A.-based musicians who have played with artists such as Jackson
Browne, Stevie Wonder and John Hiatt. Engineer Mark Johnson was at the
Neve 8048 console in The Village's Studio A. MORE
