Under the imminent threat of thunderstorms, day 1 of Summer NAMM
2007 in Austin rained down the industry news. This mid-year show is
sometimes referred to as the "now shipping" show, as many manufacturers
that announced new products at Winter NAMM in January come back to say
that those items are now available. Following that trend, TC Electronic/TC
Helicon announced the good news at its morning press conference: Its
two Voice Tone vocal floor effects boxes, Correct and Create, are now
available for $249 MAP each. For the axe-slingers, TC is now shipping
the programmable Nova Delay and Nova Reverb stomp boxes for a retail
price of $299 each. With nine presets each, both Novas feature dynamic
effect control, so the tone stays fairly clean while playing and the
effects kick in more as the playing stops. Claiming it as the first
digital effects floor unit specifically designed for acoustic guitar,
TC's G-Natural contains 30 factory and 30 user presets, as well as dual
inputs to effect both guitar and vocal signals. It's now shipping.
Sony also
joined the now-available parade with its XLR-1 ($499 list), a dual-XLR
input adapter for it acclaimed PCM-D1 digital portable field recorder.
It provides 100-plus hours of phantom power on four AA batteries.
Of course, new products have their place at every Summer NAMM, and
Roland/Boss stepped up with some goodies that will excite a variety of
musicians. Boss
decided to reinvent an absolute classic with the RE-20 Space Echo, an
effects pedal that emulates the 1973 Roland RE-201 Space Echo. Roland also
introduced the SP-555 hardware tabletop sampler/pattern sequencer and
the HD-1: V-Drums Lite all-in-one drum pad kit. The HD-1 includes four
V-Drum pads, two cymbal pads, a hi-hat pad, hi-hat and kick drum
pedal/triggers, built-in V-Drum sounds and a built-in speaker in one
inclusive setup.
Stay tuned for more product news from the showfloor! --

Responding to the needs of working musicians, SKB is introducing the
new SKB-PS-55 stagefive Professional Pedalboard at the 2007 Summer NAMM
Show. Its electronics have been designed to accommodate any possible
configuration of stompboxes from a variety of manufacturers. The SKB-55
has a durable hard cover and a cushioned handle, and it comes with pedal
power cables and a lifetime guarantee. The angled mounting surface has a
cable-management feature that eliminates disassembling the board to
route cables and makes it easier to reach all of your pedals. All DC
jacks have polarity switches, and the power is filtered, regulated, and
short-circuit protected. With a detachable power cord and a 115/230 VAC
power supply, you can travel the world with this board and set up
anywhere. Additional built-in features include a cable tester, a
headphone amp, and a buffered preamp for long cable runs or different
types of pickups. The SKB-PS-55 stagefive Professional Pedalboard will
be available in September with a MSRP of $499.99 and an expected street
price of $299.99.

X2 Digital Wireless XDR95 The XDR95 is a multichannel,
24-bit digital wireless system purpose-built for live musical
performances. The system features X2's proprietary compander-less
TruDIGITAL™ format and new Q-DiversityPLUS™ (anti-jamming)
technology for the sound and feel of a direct wire connection with a
300-foot operating range and unprecedented reliability, even in harsh
conditions including RF interference on your channel. A 24-bit A/D
converter at the XDT4 bodypack transmitter captures the full dynamic
range of incoming instrument, line-level or microphone signals, and then
transfers them in digital format on two separate RF carrier frequencies.
The XDR4 Receiver decodes the signals back into analog audio via a
24-bit D/A converter. Two permanently mounted internal UHF antennas and
two BNC chassis mounted external antennas supply RF signal to four
separate receiver sections within the single-rackspace chassis of the
receiver, creating what X2 calls Q-DiversityPLUS™, four completely
separate receiver sections working simultaneously to deliver freedom
from drop-outs, multipath cancellation, RF interference and noise.
