Flexible Epoxy Has High Thermal Conductivity

E-Note Concept
A company based in China and France has come up with the modern-day
version of the "Post-it" note that will rely on gecko-inspired adhesive
technology in place of conventional glue to stick to surfaces. Sequoia
Studio has come up with a concept for the E-note, a next-generation
Post-it made of electronic paper that offers reusability and a digital
interface. Sequoia plans to utilize a gecko-inspired adhesive to allow
users to attach and detach the notes as easily as they could a
Post-it.

U.S. Army Readies A New
Blast-protection Adhesive for Deployment
The U.S. Army has developed a new adhesive material called the
X-FLEX Blast Protection System that is intended to prevent walls from
being blown into dangerous shrapnel during explosions. X-FLEX is an
adhesive-backed tape similar to wallpaper, made from a polymer composite
with reinforcing fibers so it can be flexible and strong at the same
time. Berry Plastics Corp., whose Engineered Protective Systems division
developed the material, said that it is applied by wiping dust or
particles from the wall surface, peeling off the backing, and pressing
the tape against the wall. "The material is placed on the interior side
of exterior walls and intended to protect the occupants of that
particular room," says Elizabeth Curran, business development manager at
Berry's Tapes and Coatings division in Franklin, Mass.

Epoxy For High Temperature Service Up To
600°F
HACKENSACK, NJ: Master Bond EP46HT-1 extends the limits of epoxy
adhesive/sealant formulations. It has a continuous service operating
temperature range of -100°F to +550°F and can withstand
intermittent exposures up to 600°F. EP46HT-1 has a glass transition
temperature of over 235°C. In addition to high temperatures, it is
also designed to withstand severe and repeated thermal cycling. Master
Bond EP46HT-1 is easy to apply and cures rapidly at elevated
temperatures. It is 100% reactive and does not contain any solvents or
diluents. It offers exceptional physical strength, outstanding
dimensional stability, and superior chemical resistance. EP46HT-1 has
excellent adhesion to metals, glass, vulcanized rubbers, and most
plastics. The hardened system is an electrical insulator. Applications
range from downhole oil drilling to turbo compressors and satellite

Green Series of Polyurethane Potting
Compounds
CRANSTON, RI: The new Green Series of Polyurethane Potting &
Encapsulating Compounds is good for the environment and ideal for
electronic assembly applications. These Polyurethane Systems are
elastomeric and range in durometer from a gel to Shore 80A. They
therefore provide low stress on components and vibration resistance.
TheGreen Series is low in viscosity, low in toxicity and available in
the popular TriggerBond® dual barrel cartridge dispensing system.
The base Natural Oil Polyol (NOP) used in these systems is obtained
directly from a plant source without chemical modifications. Due to the
raw materials selected, these products are low in toxicity and
considered GREEN potting compounds. Using renewable resources, such as
NOP's, will reduce the demand on non-renewable fossil fuels and reduce

Threadlocker Lubricates & Prevents Loosening
of Large Fasteners
ROCKY HILL, CT: A new high lubricity threadlocker from Henkel
Corporation, Loctite(R) 2047(TM), is designed to ensure maximum
performance of fasteners greater than 7/8-inch in diameter. This
dual-function threadlocker works both as a lubricant that reduces
friction and achieves proper clamp load during fastener assembly, and as
an adhesive/sealant that eliminates loosening, maintains clamp load and
prevents corrosion. Loctite(R) 2047(TM) cures slowly, achieving fixture
strength after 90 minutes and full cure after 24 hours to allow the
assembly of multiple fasteners. On fastener assemblies where torque
greater than 500 ft/lbs generates considerable heat, this slow cure
profile prevents premature threadlocker cure, ensures reliable clamp
load, prevents failure and simplifies disassembly. --- Henkel
