Awards Gala
The Automotive Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE®)
International today announced that the date for its 38th-annual
Automotive Innovation Awards Gala, the oldest and largest recognition
event in the automotive and plastics industries, will be Thursday,
November 20, 2008 at Burton Manor in the suburbs of Detroit. This
year’s theme is Plastics: Vision 20/20 in recognition of the new
corporate-average fuel-economy (CAFE) standards that automakers selling
into the U.S. market will need to meet by the year 2020. Maria
Ciliberti, Global Automotive director, Ticona Engineering Polymers, and
also the SPE Automotive Innovation Awards chair for 2008 said, "This
year's Innovation Awards theme highlights the kinds of innovation that
plastics and composites offer OEMs as they work to meet the new 35-mpg

Pneumatically-Assisted Torque Arm for
Assembly
CLEVELAND, OH: A new heavy duty torque arm has been announced by
ASG, a division of Jergens, Inc. The new torque arm features a pneumatic
cylinder to assist movement of heavier tools. Torque arms improve
production efficiencies and product quality by limiting the operator’s
influence on the assembly process and reducing operator fatigue.
Additionally, the new torque arms securely maintain tool location while
allowing easy, smooth movement of assembly tools in both up-down motion
and 180º side-to-side motion. The arm’s ergonomic design helps absorb
torque to reduce the potential for operator injury to arm, wrist or
hand. The torque arm can accommodate inline pneumatic or inline electric
drivers with maximum weights of 10 lbs. and maximum torques of up to 150
lbf•in. It mounts easily to bench tops via bolts or optional bench
clamp which eliminates hole drilling. The end-of-arm tool holder allows
the operator a full grip of the driver with no pinch points. --- ASG

Quick Frame Light-Duty Aluminum Framing
System
COLUMBIA CITY, IN: Economy and simplicity are words that describe
80/20’s Quick Frame tubular aluminum framing system. As the name
implies, these profiles are quick to transform into projects like
modular shelving, furniture, stands, guards, covers, displays, carts and
more.
At the heart of the Quick Frame system are the tough nylon connectors
and 1” square clear anodized aluminum profiles. Add the fact that
boltless connections are made with a simple hand tool requiring no
machining, and you’re quick to see Quick Frame as an ideal choice for
light-duty framing applications. Seven different 1” square profiles,
six with single or double flanges, and 27 connector configurations means
design and configuration flexibility. Accessories like plastic and wire
