"The Look and Feel of
Lean"
Bosch Rexroth is offering advice for companies implementing lean on
how to get the most out of their lean transformations. Developed with
lean manufacturing expert, Richard Rahn, Rexroth's "The Look and Feel of
Lean" discusses how to implement and sustain lean manufacturing. Rahn
explains that when companies make new workspace investments, they get
better results from their lean initiative because the workforce feels as
if the company is more committed to the projects. "The Look and Feel of
Lean" is episode number 12 in Rexroth's lean manufacturing podcast
series, available for listening or free download.

Consumer electronics to boom 23%;
wireless connectivity prevails
Two recent reports from ABI Research indicate that the
consumer-electronics industry, and particularly the home-networking
market, will enjoy healthy growth over the next half-decade. One of the
two reports also states that wireless connectivity will own the day as
this boom plays out. In the report "Connected Home Devices Market Data,"
ABI analyst Serene Fong observes, "Service providers view home
networking not only as an avenue to create consumer loyalty but also as
a new revenue-generating cash cow." She further explains that rather
than pure voice or data services, service providers now include content,
applications, networking, and sometimes gaming and energy management in
their service offerings. Despite that glowing report, Fong cautions
there are obstacles still to be overcome. "Service providers and
equipment manufacturers should not rest on their laurels," Fong says.
"Price, product quality, and end-user experiences still remain intensely
competitive and manufacturers will have to keep their customers
satisfied before they can start hoping for real significant revenue
growth."

Video Takes a Humorous Look at the
History of Linear Actuation
Tolomatic takes a light-hearted look at the evolution of linear
actuation and motion control in a new video, "A History of Linear
Actuation," now available on YouTube. Featuring a caveman, a medieval
battering ram and Rube Goldberg-style inventions, the video is a
timeline of how man has attempted to solve linear actuation problems
through the ages.

Digital Pressure Gauge with 5-Digit Display
for Outdoor Applications
LOGAN, UT: Automation Products Group, Inc. (APG) introduces the PG7
Digital Pressure Gauge. Specifically engineered for challenging outdoor
conditions, the IP67 rated PG7 features a full 5-digit display with
large and easily readable 0.4 in. characters that leverages MEMS-based
sensing technology for maximum reliability and stability. The PG7 is
available with ranges from vacuum up to 500 psi, and from 0 up to 10,000
psi, at ±0.25% accuracy of full scale (B.F.S.L), while delivering
.01digit resolution as standard through 100 PSI. The unit incorporates
an all-stainless steel sensor that is resistant to most typical
vibration and shock exposures. The PG7 provides highly accurate
readings even with pulsating pressures - typically a major disadvantage
with vibration-sensitive dial gauges. --- Automation Products Group

Econo-Vue Photoelectric Sensors
TWINSBURG, OH: Econo-Vue family of photoelectric sensors are now
available in AC/DC versions, in addition to the existing DC types. The
Econo-Vue's universal supply voltage is significant to machine builders
and users in that it allows them to stock a single sensor that can be
used for AC or DC applications. Additionally, AC supply sensors could
result in longer runs of interconnected sensors than is otherwise
possible for DC types only.
As a whole, the Econo-Vue series is available in five sensing modes and
over 100 models to suit varied application requirements. Every Econo-Vue
sensor includes a flush-mount bracket that allows for a simple,
tool-less, unobtrusive means of mounting the sensor on a conveyor.
Ball-and-swivel and half-clamp mounting brackets are also available to
facilitate precise positioning of Econo-Vue sensors. The Econo-Vue
series also delivers housing versatility with both straight optic and
right angle optic models. --- Pepperl & Fuchs

IP67-Rated Sensor Reacts to Fluid Spills as
Small as 1 ml
SOUTHINGTON, CT: To eliminate the problems associated with fluid
leaking from tanks, pumps, vessels, trays and other containers, Baumer
has introduced the FODK 23 Optical Sensor for Leak Monitoring. The
evaluation electronics for this sensor are housed in a
chemically-resistant, IP67-rated sheath made of Teflon PFA, which allows
the device to withstand exposure to a range of liquids including acids,
alkalis, milk, mineral oil and any other non-conductive liquids.
Typically, 1 ml of leaked liquid will make the sensor react. The FODK 23
sensor is screwed or glued onto a dry floor or base panel in the area
where leakage might occur. The sensor's PVC or PFA installation clip
allows the device to be snapped into place and removed quickly without
requiring tools. --- Baumer Electric Ltd.
