Maximizing Cooling-Tower Water
Efficiency
|
With a nominal efficiency of 0.2 kw per ton, evaporative cooling
towers are among the most energy-efficient and cost-effective
technologies for rejecting waste heat from air conditioning and other
heat-exchange processes to the atmosphere. In the process, however, they
use significant volumes of water. This article will discuss practical
water-conservation opportunities for cooling towers. Click

10 Millionth Drive for
Yaskawa
|
Yaskawa Electric America Inc., the Waukegan, Ill.-based manufacturer
of alternating-current drives, servomotors, motion controllers, and
robotics, recently laid claim to being the first company in the world to
ship 10 million variable-frequency drives. The 10 millionth drive was
from Yaskawa's V1000 line. It took the company 19 years to cross the
1-million-drive mark, nine more years to cross the 5-million-drive mark,

***Aluminum-Filled Epoxies Ideal for HVAC
Repairs***
DANVERS, MA: FasMetal 10 HVAC Repair paste and Aluminum Putty F
cure at room temperature, withstand service temperatures up to 250°
F, and resist a broad range of chemicals. Easily applied by plant
personnel without special training, these versatile, 100% solids
compounds can be used as part of an ongoing preventive maintenance
program or for quick, durable emergency repairs, reducing downtime and
returning equipment to service within hours.
FasMetal 10 HVAC Repair paste bonds to metals, ceramics, wood, concrete,
and glass. Typical applications include repairing copper compressor
coils, filling voids or pores in aluminum castings, and sealing leaks in
pipes and tanks. With a pot life of 60 minutes and a functional cure

***Model QEM Plenum Fan***
|
SCHOFIELD, WI: Greenheck's Model QEM plenum fan is ideal for lower
pressure supply or return air handling applications where first cost is
critical. The QEM features a 12-bladed airfoil wheel that reduces both
energy consumption and sound levels. Compared to other plenum fans in
the market, the QEM has a more compact footprint that requires less
floor space for installation. Available in both belt and direct drive,
Model QEM can be specified with a wide range of accessories including
inlet guards, protective cages and isolators. ---Greenheck Fan Corp.

***Thermally Controlled "Spot Cooling"
Fan***
|
DALLAS, TX: Providing industrial design engineers with a quick,
inexpensive and convenient solution to the problem of "hot spots" within
enclosures, Orion Fans has developed a series of plug-in thermally
controlled fans that can be added to any existing electronic cabinet to
direct increased airflow to specific areas that are experiencing
elevated temperatures. These "spot cooling" fans are supplied with a
standard NEMA 5-15P AC plug-in transformer, giving enclosure
manufacturers the ability to add them anywhere within their cabinets.
The spot cooling fans are available from stock in 92mm x 25mm and 120mm
x 32mm sizes; but Orion will develop them based on any standard fan size
and airflow required by customers. ---Orion Fans
