Manufacturers Shed Light on
Information Security Systems
According to the Global State of Information Security Survey 2008,
68 percent of industrial manufacturing executives state that their
organization does not have an accurate inventory of where personal data
for employees and customers is collected, transmitted, and stored. The
study - the largest of its kind - was conducted by
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in conjunction with CIO and CSO
magazines. The study polled 7,000 information technology executives,
including 465 industrial manufacturing executives worldwide, on the
challenges of protecting corporate information assets. It also offers
guidance and solutions to protect proprietary information and reduce
security risks associated with mergers and strategic alliances. Since
security breaches can lead to financial loss, intellectual property
theft, fraud and legal exposure, industrial manufacturers are adopting
new technical systems to support many security domains - from prevention
to detection. Currently, 38 percent of industrial manufacturers are
unaware of what types of security incidents have occurred. However, 27
percent of respondents said that their organization has implemented a
data loss prevention capability. Across all industries, 74 percent of
overall respondents reported that information security spending will
either increase or stay the same over the next 12 months.
