GFCI Protected Industrial Cord
Reels
MILFORD, CT: Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems is pleased to
announce the availability of our newest addition to the Industrial Cord
Reel offering, GFCI Protected 15A and 20A reels. Hubbell WDK has taken a
leadership position by developing the first GFCI cord reel that is
compliant with UL 355, Standard for Cord Reels. In many installations,
specifying engineers call for cord reels to be GFCI protected. In the
past there were only two ways to achieve this, either by mounting a GFCI
receptacle in the facility ceiling outlet box, which would be virtually
impossible to access in the event of a fault, or to put a GFCI
receptacle in the portable outlet box hanging from the reel. The problem
with this solution is that if the neutral were to be cut on the cable
feeding the outlet box, there still may be power present but the GFCI
would not function as desired. Hubbell actively petitioned UL to
evaluate this potentially dangerous condition and lead UL to revise the
standard. --- Hubbell Inc.

Extend service life with continuous-flex
cables
Lower costs with continuous-flex cables, which are ideal for high cycle,
automated applications. Chainflex cables are designed for installation
in Energy Chain cable carriers. They eliminate corkscrewing, conductor
damage and general cable failure. Chainflex cables withstand extremely
tight bending radii and perform better than traditional cables when
constantly cycling at high speeds or exposed to abrasion. Extend the
service life of your machine and lower maintenance costs. Download
igus' new Chainflex catalog now.

Litigation in
Manufacturing
A study by the law firm Fulbright & Jaworski LLP on
manufacturing industry disputes found that 75% of manufacturing
companies faced at least one new lawsuit last year, with 53% facing 6 or
more new suits in the past year. And 25% of the manufacturing companies
surveyed reported facing at least one $20 million action. Litigation has
obviously become a major line item in manufacturing company budgets.
Nearly a quarter (26%) of the manufacturing firms reporting in the
Fulbright study said that they spent at least $5 million on litigation,
excluding costs of settlements and judgments, while 51% reported
spending over $1 million per year on business disputes.
