EL6688 EtherCAT® Terminal
BURNSVILLE, MN: In order to achieve optimum automation
synchronization of large production lines and factories, Beckhoff
Automation has released the new EL6688 EtherCAT® Terminal. The
EL6688 terminal permits extremely precise cross-factory and cross-site
synchronization according to the IEEE 1588 standard. Using the EL6688,
different machines, system components or production lines can be
accurately synchronized with each other or with an external grandmaster
clock via GPS or DCF77 receivers. In this way, a high-precision,
technology- and vendor-independent global timebase is available that can
be used for time-stamping of measured data, for example. With the
distributed clocks, all devices in an EtherCAT system can be
synchronized with a tolerance of less than 100 ns. The EL6688 EtherCAT
Terminal permits synchronization with different networks across sites.

single-component light and moisture curing silicone adhesives designed
for use on medical devices that incorporate silicone materials or
require highly flexible bond joints or coatings. All three products in
the line cure within 30 seconds on exposure to a suitable UV/visible
light source. These medical silicone adhesives eliminate part racking
and allow immediate quality control testing. To ensure robust
assemblies, the products offer high-bond strengths on silicone and
plastics including polycarbonate. The silicones demonstrate tear
strengths in excess of 50 pounds per inch and elongation of more than
140 percent in the cured state, resulting in tough, yet flexible bond
lines. These adhesives are ideal for use on catheters, respiratory

Layoffs Often Lead to
Lawsuits
"Layoffs reached a seven-year high in 2008, with 1.51 million
workers losing their jobs through September, according to the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics. And, continuing paralysis in the lending
community is making the outlook even worse, because businesses cannot
get financing to tide them over the difficult economic conditions, so
many more may be forced to terminate workers in order to survive," says
Jenny Jones, president of Elkins Jones. "Company executives and boards
of directors need to recognize that layoffs often lead to lawsuits
claiming age, gender and race discrimination, and those that do not have
Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) could find themselves
