New Innovative Metric Wave Springs

Smalley introduces a New Series of Metric Crest-to-Crest® wave springs. Crest-to-Crest springs reduce the size of assemblies by up to 50% while maintaining the same amount of force and deflection as coil springs. Wave springs minimize assembly cost and size due to the reduced spring cavity required. Over 3000 standard wave springs are available from stock in stainless or carbon steel, the new series is available from 6-60 mm. Samples are available to test. www.smalley.com

***2 in. Diam, 400-w Brush Motor***
VENTURA, CA: The TGB2013 brush motor delivers extremely high shaft output power from a very small package. The high power-to-size ratio and long-lasting brush life of the motor provides a superior solution for hand-held and battery-powered devices and machines. The small package – 2.0” diameter by 3.87” long – weighs only 34 oz. It delivers 400 watts (0.5 HP) of continuous shaft power with a maximum efficiency of 86%. At 18-volts the motor runs at 13,400 rpm producing 40 oz-in of torque while drawing 26 amps. The linearity between torque and current allows a very high peak torque of 240 oz-in. The low inductance architecture of the motor permits faster current reversal at the commutation point, which reduces brush arcing and drastically improves brush life expectancy. ---ThinGap Motor Technologies
***Custom DC Gearmotors***
SANTA CLARA, CA: These 12 mm to 50 mm DC gearmotors are available with cut steel gears for high strength applications, plastic gears for low noise requirements, and very low cost, powered metal. Available in ratios from 5:1 up to 3000:1. The inline and offset output shafts of the gearmotors can be custom machined with cross holes, splines, keyways, and flats, or end drilled and tapped. Output torque of the gearmotors range from 41 oz-in. up to 500 oz-in. Typically peak torque of these gearmotors is 3 times rated torque. OEMs can select from a broad selection of 3.0 to 24 VDC motors with no-load speeds to 6000 rpm. For high precision applications integral, incremental 2 channel encoders with quadrature outputs and an optional index channel are available. These gearmotors are a cost-effective replacement or upgrade of existing machines and the best choice for new applications. ---Source Engineering Inc.
***Liquid-Cooled Three-Phase Synchronous Motors***
ROSWELL, GA: Liquid-cooled three-phase synchronous motors feature high power density with compact outer dimensions. This opens up new perspectives for the design of machines and systems. This extra level of freedom enables machine manufacturers to create efficient and economical solutions. Integrated water cooling enables more compact sizes and prevents the machine or the switching cabinet from overheating. Doing away with energy consuming and noisy fans saves space, reduces emissions and lowers costs. The life-span increases significantly because the motor parts, except for bearings, are free of wear. Intelligent connection technology for power and encoder connections using circular connectors or terminal boxes simplifies installation considerably. 8KS series motors are available in four sizes with a rated speed of 1,100 1/min to 2,200 1/min and a maximum speed of 4,500 to 10,000 1/min. The rated torque is between 8.3 Nm and 605 Nm. The motors can be controlled with ACOPOS or ACOPOSmulti servo drives. ---B&R Industrial Automation Corp.

2008 Manufacturing Expo & Conference - Free Webinars
Presentation topic: "Push. Click. Done. - New Universal Push to Connect Assembly"
Sponsor: Parker Hannifin - Tube Fittings Division
Date: Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Time: 11:00am EDT

Parkers new Universal Push to Connect design takes the guess work out of assembling fluid power connections. Current assembly of threaded connectors is slow and relies on proper torques and assembly procedures. Parker’s new design saves time and money by eliminating the wrenching of hose ends to fittings and the costly rework of improperly assembled connections.

Simply insert the male hose end into the Universal Push to Connect fitting and assembly is complete. If a hose needs to be replaced or maintenance performed, a standard wrench is all you need. Because the design utilizes standard O-ring Face Seal (ORFS) fittings, an off-the-shelf ORFS hose assembly can be used to replace any that are damaged, therefore minimizing downtime.

Presentation topic: "Designing Belt Power Transmission Systems for Energy Savings"
Sponsor: Gates Corporation
Date: Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Time: 3:00pm EDT

It’s a topic no one can afford to ignore. Companies are looking for ways to save energy in power transmission operations. Put simply, efficient systems save money.

Join Brent Oman, who has over 20 years of drive design experience with Gates Corporation, for a free webinar on designing the most energy-saving power transmission solutions. He’ll compare the capabilities of V-belts and synchronous belts, so that you’re equipped with the latest information on energy efficiency.

The one-hour webinar will help you answer these questions:
• What is efficiency?
• How do the various types of V-belts and synchronous belts differ?
• What are the energy efficiency advantages of each type of belt?
• What does energy cost?
• What are proven examples or case studies that show the benefits of energy savings?
• How do I calculate savings and payback?
• What are the maintenance-saving advantages of synchronous belts?
• How can I design for energy savings?
You’ll walk away with practical pointers to start saving energy, and money, in your drives. The presentation concludes with an interactive, Q&A session, so bring your questions.
