Measurement Application Bulletins
Four technical application bulletins describe the technology,
methodology and techniques for obtaining high-accuracy measurements on a
variety of targets and materials using CCD laser displacement sensors.
Bulletins describe measuring metal targets, eliminating surface
reflections, measuring thickness, swell and warpage of LCD glass and
PDP-Plasma Display Panels. Additionally, the bulletins describe
techniques for measuring runout, eccentricity, and vibration; as well as

Multi-Million Dollar Plant Increases
Production of Mechanical Drives
Due to the increasing demands for alternative and renewable energy
sources, Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. announced today that it would
be investing more than $20 million to develop a second plant in Elgin,
Ill., for its Drives Technologies business. Siemens is the largest
producer of wind turbine gear drives in the United States. The expansion
will increase production, enabling the company to meet the expectations
of its customers.In Elgin, Siemens designs and manufactures mechanical
gear drives for the wind industry as well as for the cement, coal and
minerals, and oil and gas industries. The new plant, expected to be
completed in March 2009, will create approximately 300 new jobs in
production and 55 new office jobs over the next three to four
years.

Designs
CANTON, MA: High-power-density Accelnet Micro servo drive mounts
directly onto OEM circuit boards and delivers 6A peak at 90V for
brushless and brush-type servo motors. Board mounting simplifies wiring
and power distribution, reducing cost. OEMs can minimize expensive panel
space and have the flexibility to use the most effective connectoring
scheme. The drive is particularly attractive for semiconductor and life

Pacesetter™ AC Motor Speed
Controls
CHICAGO, IL: Pacesetter™ models 2994 and 2998, 3-phase AC
Motor speed controls are designed to drive 230 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz,
inverter-duty, 3-phase gearmotors and motors ranging from 1/8 HP to 1 HP
(746 watts). Both controls operate from a single-phase 115 or 208/230
VAC line voltage. The model 2994 is housed in a NEMA-4X / IP-65 rated
enclosure for superior protection in harsh environments. This new
control is designed for industrial or food processing conveyor systems,
feeders, and pumps, and outdoor applications. The model 2998 is housed
in a NEMA-1 / IP40 enclosure for more basic environmental protection. It
is suitable for applications such as packaging equipment, conveyor
