Small Diameter Wave Springs
Smalley Wave Springs are now available from stock in diameters as small
as 0.250". Hundreds of new sizes have been added to stock in both carbon
and stainless steel. With up to a 50% reduction in spring height,
Smalley's new series of smaller Crest-to-Crest® wave springs minimize
assembly cost and total assembly size due to the reduced spring cavity
required. Over 4,000 wave springs are available from 0.250" to 16"
diameters. Specials can be manufactured with No-Tooling-Costs™
from 0.200" to 90". Free Samples are available.

Improving Gearmotor
Efficiency
With the concerns over the growing energy crisis, the efficiency of
electric motors has become an important, timely topic. The reason:
electric motors consume from 63% to 70% of the electricity used in
domestic manufacturing, and represent 23% of the total electricity
consumption in the U.S. However, most motor efficiency efforts to date
have focused on only about 10% of the total electric motor
population.

NEXT GENERATION OF
ENGINEERS
Clippard Instrument Laboratory, Inc. has announced that it is
joining forces with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science
and Technology), a not-for-profit organization founded by inventor Dean
Kamen to inspire young people's interest and participation in science
and technology, as a Silver Supplier of the FIRST Robotics Competition.
The FIRST Robotics Competition Silver Supplier level designates a
contribution between $10,000 and $50,000. Clippard Instrument
Laboratory, Inc. provided air volume tanks for the 2009 FRC Kit of Parts
which was distributed to more than 1,680 teams of high-school students.
By providing components for the competition, FIRST suppliers are putting
the latest technology in the hands of students, giving them the
opportunity to apply the same tools used by professional scientist and
engineers and ultimately helping them learn real-world skills they will
carry into the workplace. The 2009 Kit of Parts contain 604 items, 39%
of which are donated.

Synchronous Plus Drives Provide High-Torque,
Flexibility with Dual Sprocket Design
CHAMBERSBURG, PA: TB Wood's Synchronous Plus™ synchronous
drives offer the flexibility of a dual sprocket design that features
both metric and standard-tapped holes coupled with a high-capacity
Synchronous Plus belt. As a result, the Synchronous Plus drive delivers
50% more horsepower capacity than standard-construction, high-torque
drives, according to the company. The design allows for the use of
smaller, lighter weight sprockets which, in many sizes, are drilled for
both inch and metric hardware. Synchronous Plus belts feature
helically-wound, extra-strong fiberglass cords that are chemically
treated and designed to assure superior length stability, maximum
flexibility, and high tensile strength for shock loads. --- TB Wood's

TightDrive™ Motor-Mounted Speed
Control
ST. CHARLES, IL: TightDrive speed control for permanent magnet DC
(PMDC) motors was designed for applications that require a convenient
location for the control ... on the motor! The majority of PMDC
gearmotors and motors used in industry today require speed controls in
order to operate. Typically, the control is wired to the motor through a
costly, complicated cable system and the motor and control can be many
steps away from each other. Bison's voice of the customer research
brought forth the need for a convenient "point of use" motor speed
control that was robust for industrial environments, while offering
practical features and exceptional value. The new TightDrive™
motor-mounted speed control can be easily field mounted on Bison PMDC
gearmotors up to 1/6 horsepower (124 watts) and offers a 20:1 speed
range with maximum output of 90 Volts. The TightDrive™ is housed
in a durable aluminum extrusion which offers NEMA 1 (IP 30) protection
and superior heat dissipation. --- Bison Gear & Engineering

HELICAL PRODUCTS - DS-Series
Couplings
The DS Series is different from any other coupling in the Helical
coupling lineup; it is the only series to use a multi-start design.
The DS Series has a “Double Start” flexure, which is where
the designation “DS” is derived.
Bimba Manufacturing - T4 Heavy Duty
Thruster
Bimba Manufacturing announced the introduction of their new
heavy duty “T4” Thruster today. Available in bore sizes
2” and larger, this new thruster offers the smooth actuation of
the “T” series Thrusters, while delivering twice the
static load-carrying capability.
