Diecasters See Buyers Switching to
U.S. Sourcing
The North American Die Casting Assn. reports that a recent survey of
its members reveals a significant majority, 78%, have evidence that
buyers of their products are shifting to domestic sources for diecast
components. The survey identifies three reasons for these shifts:
buyers' concerns about the product quality, supplier proximity, and
overseas logistics. Proximity to suppliers may be a determining factor
for OEMS because delivery raises cost and production time. Together,
these increases may eliminate any savings from offshore
production.

Graphic Symbols for Arc Welding and
Cutting Apparatus
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has
published EW 4-2009, the first new edition in 15 years. This standard
provides manufacturers and users of arc welding and cutting equipment
with a system for the development and use of graphic symbols for use on
their equipment. It accommodates non-English speaking and functionally
illiterate workers in the U.S. In addition, globalization of the welding
and cutting industry has also expanded, making it necessary for
U.S.-based manufacturers to design and mark their products in a way that
is more easily understood by a more linguistically and culturally
diverse customer base. As a result, the new edition of EW 4 contains
all pertinent graphic symbols recognized by IEC TC 26, the international
standards committee for electric welding and allied processes.
EW 4-2009 may be downloaded at no charge or a hard copy purchased for
$114 by visiting NEMA's website HERE.

800/900 Series Bleed Valves
BEREA, OH: 800/900 Series Bleed Valves provide a convenient means to
relieve process pressures trapped between a shut off valve and the
instrument. The 800/900 Bleed Valves use the same patented features as
the NOSHOK 100/150 Series Mini Valves, with an integrated single
threaded body for insertion in a vent port. The Bleed Valve provides
shutoff to a small bleed hole located on the side the hex which vents to
atmosphere. These Valves are available in electroless nickel plated
12L14 steel, electropolished 316 stainless steel and 360 brass. All
bleed valves are equipped with a Viton® O-ring and Teflon® back
up ring below the stem threads to protect against corrosion and galling.
Teflon® or Grafoil® packing are optional. Their stem threads are
rolled for greater strength and ease of operation, and they have a
maximum pressure rating of 10,000 psi for steel and stainless models,
and 6000 psi for brass models. --- NOSHOK Inc.

Butterfly Valves with Internal Disc/Stem
Connections
HOUSTON, TX: Bray Controls has designed a line of 22" to 96" (550 mm
to 2400 mm) resilient, seated butterfly valves specifically for highly
abrasive and corrosive applications. These valves meet process
requirements with chloride content from low to very high parts per
million in applications such as seawater, mining, sanitary service and
FGD at an economical price. The internal disc-to-stem connections
prevent many valve failures due to erosion, corrosion and vibration. The
splined disc-to-stem connection features matched, precision machined
male splines in the stem and female in the disc, and it is available in
valve sizes ranging from 22" to 48" (550 mm to 1200 mm). For larger
valves from 52" to 96" (1300 mm to 2400 mm), the double keyed
disc-to-stem connection offers double keyways machined into the disc,
matching double keys in the stem. --- Bray Controls

Corzan CPVC Solenoid Valves
CEDAR GROVE, NJ: Plast-O-Matic Valves, Inc. has announced the
addition of Corzan CPVC Solenoid Valves to meet the increasing demand of
higher temperatures in corrosive applications. The electrically-actuated
valve is normally-closed and features a PTFE bellows seal with no wetted
metals or elastomers. This design, combined with the Corzan body, allows
for the valve's compatibility with highly aggressive, corrosive liquids,
thereby eliminating contamination in the system. The solenoid coil is
rated Nema 4X, and is available AC or DC, in a variety of voltages. Use
of Corzan CPVC gives the valve an advantage over PVC in its ability to
handle hot corrosive liquids in service temperatures to 180° F.
Corzan valves can be joined by solvent cementing, threading, or
flanging. Corzan solenoid valves are available direct-acting in 1/4"
through 1" pipe sizes, and up to 2" in a pilot-operated style. The
valves can be factory modified for special applications. ---
