    In joint comments filed Tuesday, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and International Aloe Science Council (IASC) assert the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) overreaches when it suggests that packaging or serving size may be factors – and potentially the only factor – that are indicative of whether a liquid supplement product is represented as a conventional food.
  • CRN Responds To Introduction Of New Dietary Supplement Legislation
    [2010/02/04][Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN)]
    In response to a press conference today held by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) introducing, “The Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010,” CRN has responded "We do not believe that requiring manufacturers to report all adverse events—not just serious adverse events—would do anything to protect consumers. Instead, it could do the opposite by stretching the Agency beyond its limits..."
  • ABC Responds to Article on Herb-Drug Interactions in Journal of the American College of Cardiology

    ABC observes that the article in Journal of the American College of Cardiology should be retracted and correctedc. "This particular article has so many flaws and errors that it is difficult to know where to begin to critically review it."
  • NPA: Cardiology Journal’s Risk Assessment on Herb, Pharmaceutical Interactions “Does Not Add Up”
    [2010/02/03][Natural Products Association]
    The Natural Products Association has ananlyzed the research review released on Monday in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, noting "“The authors fail to understand that the risk needs to be attributed to the riskier product, which all would agree is the pharmaceutical. The risk they speak of, while nice in theory, in reality does not add up."
  • Natural Products Association Questions Potential Threat to DSHEA
    [2010/02/03][Natural Products Association]
    In response to legislation recently announced by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and the US Anti-Doping Agency, the Natural Products Association (NPA) states: "“What we cannot support is wholesale changes to a regulatory structure that is working, and could work better if the measures we have supported were adopted. A series of new laws for criminals to ignore is not the answer. "
  • Senator McCain to Introduce Legislation Regarding “FDA’s Current Regulations on Dietary Supplements”
    [2010/02/03][The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) ]
    Senator John McCain (R-AZ) held a press conference this afternoon at which he announced his intention to introduce legislation that would amend the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) in several areas that would affect dietary supplements.
