3. ANSI Dismisses Latest Appeal to Withdraw Construction Musculoskeletal Consensus Standard

On July 17, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) dismissed the latest appeal brought by the Construction Industry Employer Coalition to withdraw the adoption of the approved voluntary consensus standard aimed to reduce musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the construction industry. This was the last appeal allowable under the ANSI appeals process.

4. New Britain, Conn., Contractor Faces Fines for Fall Hazards

BMA General Contractors LLC is facing $140,000 in OSHA fines for fall hazards at two Connecticut work sites. The company was cited for similar hazards in 2006 and 2007.

6. OSHA Fines Texas Construction Contractor More than $157,000 for Alleged Safety Violations

OSHA has issued citations with proposed penalties totaling $157,600 to Shelby Stephens Construction Inc., a Fort Worth, Tex.-based contractor, for allegedly failing to protect employees from falls and falling objects at two of its worksites in Garland, Tex.

7. Excavation Company to Pay $356,000 in Back Wages and Workers' Comp Premiums

The owners of a Vancouver excavation business have agreed to pay $356,000 in a case involving unpaid overtime wages and workers' compensation premiums for work performed in Washington state.
