This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a leadership
conference held by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). I
attended the conference because of my position as vice chair of ASSE's
Ergonomics Branch. During this weekend, I had one of those "Jerry
McGuire" moments, a realization of something dramatically wrong that
really needs to be addressed in the ergonomics community.

3. More Workers Employed After Traditional
Retirement Years
Older workers in Ohio and nationwide will comprise a much higher
portion of the workforce in the years to come, and employers should be
prepared to accommodate and benefit from the experience and range of
attributes they bring to the job, according to a recent report released
by Miami University’s Scripps Gerontology Center.

5. Doing the Right Thing (And Doing It
Successfully)
Some EHS professionals strongly object to the amount of regulation
in their industry, or to specific requirements. Others are frustrated by
the hoops that must be jumped through to prove compliance. A fairly
common attitude is that compliance is a necessary evil — a way to
motivate corporate and individual behavior that's all stick and no
carrot.
