1. AIHA Calls on Congress to Support a GAO Study on NIOSH
The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) recently sent letters to several members of Congress soliciting their support for Congress to request a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study of the pros and cons of whether the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) should remain within the organizational structure of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

2. FDLI: Nanotechnology Risk Management Policies Needed Now
Companies that manufacture products containing nanomaterials immediately must institute high-quality risk management and product stewardship measures to limit potential liability exposure in the future, assert attorneys Jesse Ash, Anthony Klapper and James Wood.

3. EIP, Sierra Club Sue EPA for Failing to Properly Regulate Air Pollution From Nitric Acid Plants
The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) and the Sierra Club filed a lawsuit Feb. 4 against EPA for violating its duty to review and update its emission standards for nitric acid plants, which produce chemicals used in the fertilizer and explosives industries.

4. Dear Mr. President: Please Give OSHA Adequate Support to Protect Workers in 3 Million New Jobs
The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has sent President Barack Obama a letter encouraging him to provide OSHA with the resources it needs to protect the workers in the estimated 3 million jobs his economic stimulus package is predicted to create.

Kentucky Utilities (KU), a coal-fired electric utility, has agreed to pay a $1.4 million civil penalty and spend approximately $135 million on pollution controls to resolve violations of the Clean Air Act, the Justice Department and EPA announced.
