1. Toxic Chemical Exposure Costs California $2.6 Billion

The Californian government's inadequate oversight of hazardous chemicals is sickening thousands of workers and children each year and costs the state an estimated $2.6 billion in medical expenses and lost wages, according to a report released by researchers at the University of California.

3. CSB: T2 Blast Injured More People Than Originally Reported

Investigators from the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) concluded that the number of people injured in the fatal accident at the Jacksonville, Fla.-based T2 Laboratories was more than double the number previously reported.

    Researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) released a report that supports the use of in-place shelters and portable rescue chambers as alternative refuge methods for trapped underground coal miners.

    EPA awarded 58 university teams a total of $580,000 in grants to provide college students with the resources to develop sustainable environmental solutions and to create healthier home and work environments.
